Title: World Junior Tournament
Post by: scoop85 on January 02, 2015, 03:36:21 PM
Just saw the end of the US-Russia game, with Russia winning 3-2.  For all the U.S.'s talent (5 first round picks on the team), they showed very little creativity and the offense appeared rather Cornell-like.

But the US actually scored.  That's un-Cornell like, at least as of late.

I'd take the US offense, and defense for that matter, any day. 41 SOG and with 2 scores on laser-like shots. I'll admit the late PPs were not very exciting, in particular with Eichel not controlling the passes to him, but they dominated Russia thru most of the game. None of Russia's goals were of the pretty type, in fact they looked Cornell-like, with the first goal being off a scrum in front of the net, and the next 2 were due to deflections off our players. One was a SOG deflection and the other was a rebound hitting our skate and then put in by Russia.

They were generally a fun team to watch. The best comparison to Cornell teams for yesterdays game, might have been their undisciplined play, much like us a couple of years ago. If they stayed out of the box, which gave the Russians their only consistent offensive possession, they would have almost certainly beaten them.
