When's our next Apple vs. Windoze arguement?? ::uhoh::
Nice to see white headgear again. Now if we would just stop wearing Penn's colors... ::help::
Al sez: "Now if we would just stop wearing Penn's colors."
Yeah, what's up with the Chicago Bears blue? Do not like it, no sir. Don't get me wrong, it's not as bad as the horrifying jerseys of 1987-1988 (see below). But I don't like this trend we're seeing throughout the Athletics Department with all the black or blue trim. Heinous example: Check out the women's lax unis.
******
THE RISE AND FALL OF CORNELL LAX JERSEYS (dates highly questionable)
Harkness period through 1977: Badass jerseys with double over-the-shoulder and down-the-shorts stripes ... and no lettering whatsoever. Total retro cool. (A look that UMass continued for years.)
1977 until early 1980s: No more double stripes. Straight CORNELL added above numbers. Still pleasantly minimal, I suppose. Experiments with red shorts / white shirts.
Early 1980s through about 1987: First appearance of a little dark trim. More or less a copy of football jerseys, with arched CORNELL and modified double stripe low on sleeves. A good update.
1987 through about 1988 or 1989: Ack! One of the butt-ugliest Cornell uniforms of any time in any sport. First problem: The see-through mesh...so friggin 1970s Southeastern Conference two-a-day football practice. Then there was the freakish crossword puzzle typography: CORNELL across the top, LACROSSE down the right side. Lawd have mercy.
1989ish (?) through about (?): A return to the mid 1980s unis, I think.
Late 1990s: Bizarro arched CORNELL, first appearance of 3D numbers, lotsa dark-blue-black. White shorts on the road. Ick.
2000: Petro's experiment with retro style -- no CORNELL on shirt. Very odd. Fugly red helmets. Shorts said BIG RED (huh?).
And then I think you get to the current version, with the Blackmon/Bears-style oval numbers. Different color for shirts and shorts institutionalized. Not awful, but not satisfying either.

I've yet to hear anyone say what's wrong with classic carnelian and white. Looks great on the men's hockey unis. Still looks great on the Ed Marinaro SI cover.
And don't forget, back in the 1890s the "crisp red and white colors of the Cornell jerseys" inspired the Campbell's soup can,:-P replacing the originally planned orange and black.
