Last night some of the auxiliary refs in section 7 left before the game was over. They seemed to leave when they were most needed.
There were 12 10 minute misconduct penalties handed out in the last 3:13 of the game. (Hell those that left might have helped fill out the roster if there had been a few more players tossed.) 11 of the 12 were simple misconduct penalties. The 12th was a game misconduct. The folks at RPITV have video of the game available and I have a question for the crowd here.
Watch the third period. Choose third period from the drop down menu labeled "Playlist" on the upper left and click on the 20 minute mark of the video. You can watch the rockem sockem boys at their worst.
My question is shouldn't there have been a game DQs handed out? Isn't it pointless to give misconduct after misconduct when there is no larger consequence to the penalty than an early shower? As an added bonus this was Alex Dell's swan song. He was honored by no less than Steve Hagwell in a short ceremony at the beginning of the game. So unless Mr. Hagwell left with the refs in section 7 he witnessed this mess.

How was Haggerty's initial hit not a five and game misconduct to begin with, even before the extracurriculars? It was a flagrant charge, and high. The RIP announcers had it right: Bodie had to do something, considering the no call.
On the second fracas, I see Wood got a CTH 5 and spearing 5, with two misconducts. If the refs were too stupid not to disqualify him, the league office should. That was a nasty crosscheck to Wilkins's neck.

Someone posted on USCHO that this year a total of three game misconducts over the course of the season results in a game suspension.
