We have better alumni news tonight. Sean Collins got his first NHL point tonight in Washington (http://www.nhl.com/gamecenter/en/recap?id=2013020266&navid=nhl:topheads).
In addition, Jonathan Quick left tonight's Kings game with a lower-body injury. If the injury is significant, Ben Scrivens will get a lot of playing time.
Quote from: cbuckserIf the injury is significant, Ben Scrivens will get a lot of playing time.
Unfortunately for Scrivens, he didn't have a whole lot of time to get into the game after replacing Quick near the end of regulation. Matt Moulson scored the deciding shootout goal on him, giving Buffalo their first home win of the season. Moulson also had two assists in regulation.

And America will suffer in the Olympics. So here's to a quick recovery for the best American goalie.

Matt could have ended the game, but missed the back-door lay-up on a 2 on 1 break. It was pretty embarrassing. I felt bad for him, and was happy he scored as Buffalo's first shootout shooter.

No.
According to Wikipedia, Nolan was hired in NY in June of '06 and fired in July of '08. Moulson signed with the Islanders in July 2009.

Riley Nash was Carolina's first shooter in the shootout tonight and he converted, with the 'Canes going on to defeat Anaheim 3-2.
Even though it doesn't show up in the box score (just a +1), Colin Greening was key on the forecheck (got the Ottawa radio guys really excited) that led to Chris Neil's unassisted goal to put Ottawa on the scoreboard in what was eventually a 4-2 Sens win. Ottawa only had 6 shots in the first period, and 7 in the second, so it was almost like listening to Cornell :-P.
Even from way up high in the Prudential Center cheap seats ($55), Ben Scrivens seemed not to have a career night but New Jersey couldn't capitalize on a couple first-period miscues, and Scrivens wound up with 26 saves and 0 GA in the the 2-0 win for the Kings and first star of the game (NJ goalie Cory Schneider 1 late GA + 1 ENG) was second star). When the Devils' Damien Brunner couldn't get his stick on the puck for an in-close shot, the fight fan next to us yelled, "Jesus, that's Ben SCRIVENS you're shooting at." No respect yet, Ben.
Too bad Cornell doesn't have a jumbotron (heresy) in Lynah if only for this: In the third period, the fan cam shows a Devils fan (cheers), a Kings fan (boos), a Devils fan (cheers), a Kings fan wearing a purple crown (louder boos), a good looking Devils fan (louder cheers), and two fans in Islanders and Rangers jerseys (insanely loud boos). This is not good for the NHL in Newark: You bring a bag of food for the homeless, you get a four-pack of tickets to a future game (okay, for the day before Thanksgiving), and the place was just over half full (announced: 12,168).
Riley Nash set up Nathan Gerbe for a shortie tonight, although the Blues would end up winning 4-2.
Watching Scrivens on TV vs. Rangers. Lots of talk about him during first period. "Another one of those Cornell goaltenders," Rangers color announcer Joe Micheletti said. "He's not Ken Dryden yet, but they went to the same school." Scrivens playing well in early going, but also getting lucky on a few near-misses by Rangers.
Scrivens comes away with his second consecutive shutout as the Kings beat the Rangers 1-0.

That hairline doesn't even look like it's receding. Quite a random jab/forced joke to make.
on a similar note, the Kings announced that they think Quick will be out until around December 25. The Kings play 16 games from tomorrow night until then.
I have a receding hairline yet my goalie stats suck.
It's hard to put into words how much better the Kings are than the Devils.......second period is almost over, Kings outshooting the Devils 26-5. Still 0-0 though.

Maybe Sutter checked this forum from Scrivens' Cornell days (Underhill / Leneveu / Scrivens / Iles is not the answer). Maybe it was the embarrassment of seeing your goalie trip (twice) behind the net and give up the puck for a soft shorthanded goal by Calgary. Scrivens carried a ~3.8 GPA and maybe it's the same reason as why Nascar doesn't like Jeff Gordon (per Jeff Foxworthy): He can enunciate.
