TSN's box scores are always the best, but they've gotten even cooler this year (http://gametracker-nhl.tsn.ca/17774).
When you're nominally a Devils fan but Moulson plays well and is the only player among 12 shooters to get a shootout goal, it's a win-win. Priceless, give or take $95 Stubhub tickets and seven dollars for a freaking pretzel. Oh, wait, we got a free commemorative puck.
Based on tonight's game, both teams have miles to go to be serious playoff contenders.
Ben Scrivens plays 14 minutes and doesn't get scored on

In game 2, Moulson scores 50% of the Isles' goals and 100% of their shootout goals (again), but it's not enough.
I'm sitting here kind-of watching the Flyers game when I hear Riley Nash's name mentioned.
He looks to be getting a regular shift on the 3rd line. Actually nice to see him in red again, even if I'm rooting against him.
Edit: And he's on the ice for the 'Canes first goal.
From ESPN.com, article on Matt Moulson (http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/9788890/nhl-new-york-islanders-matt-moulson-making-case-big-pay-raise) and his contract (and hopefully contract extension).
Per his intermission interview on the Islanders broadcast, Moulson and his wife had a baby boy today.

Riley Nash's ice time has been declining in recent games the point where he was benched in favor of former Princeton goon, Kevin Westgarth, in Carolina's most recent game.
Hopefully Riley can get back in the lineup soon.

Of course, just hours after I post this, Riley is back in the lineup and scores his first goal of the season as the 'Canes are currently tied 2-2 against Phoenix.

Ben Scrivens got his first start for LA today and notched a 20-save shutout: not a bad debut!
NHL Network talked up Scrivens as the perfect, i.e. someone you don't have to worry about.
I thought David LeNeveau was the goalie of the decade for Cornell in the 2010-10 era. Scrivens is doing the job in the NHL right now. Not that what you do in the pros makes you a better or worse college goalie. Great for Cornell hockey.
Collins Called to Columbus (http://www.ecachockey.com/men/members/cornell/20131410_CollinsRecallColumbus). Here's the whole article:
QuoteCOLUMBUS, OHIO -- The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled former Cornell forward Sean Collins from the American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen, a former Clarkson standout, announced.
Collins appeared in five games with the Blue Jackets last season and recorded five blocked shots in addition to three hits and six penalty minutes. The 6-1, 198-pound center has tallied 12-24-36 and a +19 plus/minus rating in 75 career AHL games with Springfield.
Columbus' ninth pick, 187th overall, at the 2008 NHL Draft, Collins turned pro on March 29, 2012 after spending four seasons with Cornell. He registered 30-26-56 during his 136-game collegiate career.

... Moulson (smart) and Greening (3.95 GPA) invest their NHL winnings right, they will not even need to file a FAFSA, just pay the list price. Be nice to see a Cornell building or art collection or dorm endowed by a sports figure. Which sounds better: Moulson Campus Center? Bettman Archive at Olin Library?

Moulson responded to his demotion to the third line by scoring a PPG last night (his second of the season), but the Islanders fell to the Sabres in the shootout.
Colin Greening had a nice game with two assists (including one on the OT winner), and the first was a beauty with Greening stealing the puck from the Phoenix goalie behind the net, and then dishing it into the slot for Spezza to score: http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?id=2013020093-477-h

Whoa, that's a stunner. Sabres were going nowhere so I guess they had to shake things up. Tough for Moulson, who really found a great niche with the Isles and loved playing there. Unfortunately his scoring will likely suffer going to an offensively challenged team.
At least he's a free agent after the season.

I wouldn't rule out Matt playing in the playoffs this season. It's entirely plausible and probably likely that unless he's going to re-sign in Buffalo, he gets traded again for a draft pick closer to the deadline.
I don't often question management's decisions in trades, but that really doesn't seem like a super exchange for the Isles.
Shit.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Unless the Isles have some sort of inside track on re-signing Vanek, it's a pretty aggressive move to give up the picks.
If Moulson really likes playing for the Islanders, he can finish out the year, prove he can score some goals on a weak club, and go back to the Islanders.
It's a nice move by the Islanders if they end up with both of them long term, otherwise.........
EDIT - Islanders have $28mm of projected cap space next year per CapGeek (but only 14 players signed).

The Sabres fan in me is excited, yet nervous that MM won't perform as well as Vanek, but at least they got some high draft picks coming.
The CU fan in me is incredibly, incredibly nervous. Nervous that everything that has led to MM's success was a result of a very fortunate "right place, right time" situation and now he'll be asked to perform as well without all these things (and Taveras), and he'll be expected to put up Vanek-like performances, and might not do that. And it's not like Buffalo fans are a very fickle group or anything...
I don't think Moulson is expected to replace Vanek- Sabres need big time retooling and getting a return for Vanek is part of that. I suppose it wouldn't be so fair to Buffalo fans to trade Vanek for just picks at the start of the season. That being said, I also wouldn't been surprised to see Moulson moved to a contender around the deadline. Not sure this works too well for the Islanders. Wish the best to Moulson though- 3x 30g seasons and still underrated!
