The first, I think since school's over, good news. Mathews Named Preseason Third Team All-American BY BSN (http://cornellbigred.com/news/2013/6/20/FB_0620132052.aspx)

Story starts extolling his virtues led by his cannon of an arm, worries about his footwork and the INTs, and concludes wondering if he'll be the second 2000s era QB since Joe Flacco (Delaware) to go in Round 1 from the Div 1 little guys subdivision.

If one were to take a glass-half-full view, one could suggest that any footwork issues Mathews might have would be less pronounced if he were playing behind a better line, and that the interceptions might have been a result of having to force throws (Mathews attempted 405 passes last season, almost 50 more than the Ivy QB who attempted the next most, despite missing the game against Monmouth) because Cornell was playing from behind a lot of the time (Cornell gave up 302 points in 10 games last year, the most in the Ivy League).

Cornell goes matte:

Not good in red. Not good in any color, IMO. High gloss forever! With metalflake!
As long as there's no black outline, I'm OK with it.
I'm with Tim and Jeff, but would much prefer the gloss.
Two more on Mathews:
Mathews Named Preseason First-Team FCS All-American (http://cornellbigred.com/news/2013/7/24/FB_0724135727.aspx)
Mathews Named Candidate For Spot On Allstate AFCA Good Works Team (http://cornellbigred.com/news/2013/7/23/FB_0723133221.aspx)
Matte is cool on show cars. On daily drivers, any rubbing of the finish - car wash, brisk toweling - tends to work off the matte effect and it gets a bit shiny in places. Matte helmets will probably look really beaten up by season's end.

Beat Buddy Teevens!
Looks as if Texas A&M and Johnny Football have matte red helmets. (See current Sports Illustrated, the A-Rod cover.) Bet Johnny Manziel swaps out helmets the minute there's a scuff mark.
Cornell picked to finish 6th.

... picked sixth with Cornell's best player in 40 years as QB. Games should be fun to watch at least.

Perhaps not of the quarterback. He is not why others believe Cornell will finish sixth. Going on seven decades, Cornell has managed just a handful of titles and not one outright, unshared football championship. We haven't been able to pull together a more complete team, give or take injuries, than all the others.
Didn't you have high hopes wiht the previous coaching change? And now this year? So let's see what happens.

Nope.
Well, I'm going to check them out tomorrow at 4PM.

To be honest, Cornell could probably not beat Damascus HS (http://www.maxpreps.com/local/team/records/year_by_year_results.aspx?gendersport=boys,football&schoolid=0266598f-06d6-4d7d-bb62-16db2e143586).

You voted for him. I'll reserve for you that honor!!
Buena suerte! He seems to take negative advice from outsiders really well.
Regarding the footballers, I think an away game in Damascus, whilst good PR, might prove a bit $$ extravagant?
Even for a university with Cornell's renowned deep coffers. Na'am??
