People at the ceremony are the last to know. Looks as if the winners were released to the media with a 9 pm embargo even though the show didn't announce until almost 10 pm.

An embargo that wasn't observed by Newsday (note original publication time). (http://www.newsday.com/sports/college/lacrosse/rob-pannell-smithtown-west-wins-tewaaraton-award-1.5374149)

Good to see Cornell alums finding work in a soft economy.
Thursday night he picks up the Tewaaraton Trophy in DC, Friday he's at Hofstra for his first pro game, still wearing #3. Pannell scores 3 goals, 1 assist, for the Lizards who (stop me if you've heard this) can't hold a lead and (history repeats itself) Matt Danowski scores twice in the fourth as the Charlotte Hounds win 14-12. Still, pretty freakin' impressive debut considering Pannell has had little practice with his teammates. When I tuned in, I didn't know Pannell's jersey number or if he'd be on the field. It took about 5 seconds watching the movement of the Lizards attackman behind the cage to determine that had to be RP3.
They play again Thursday at Randall's Island.
Even though the Lizzies are having a tough season, it is great to watch so many Cornell greats continue their lax careers. And, as a rookie, Pannell's pro stats are even more proof of his talent and contribution to the sport. I only wish Cornell could recruit him as a assistant coach!
