Title: TBRW Awards: First Round Voting Phase
Post by: Trotsky on March 18, 2013, 11:28:54 AM
For each award, you may vote for as many players as you wish.

Andy wins the goaltender award, so you may vote for Omar out of affection but it won't matter.

Please list your votes as follows:

Award Name 1: Player 1, Player 2, etc...
Award Name 2: Player 1, Player 2, etc...

(I have included a blank ballot to copy at the bottom of this post)

Please keep the awards in the same order as below, for ease of... well, ease of me.

Voting phase closes one week from today 3/25, 11:27 am ET.

Final awards will be determined by Final Round Voting among top three vote recipients for each award.

Past Winners (http://www.tbrw.info/tbrw_Awards/tbrwAwards.html)

Objective Awards

Duane Moeser-Matt Moulson Award, Leading Point Scorer

    Greg Miller (14-19-33)

Chris Norton-Mark McRae Award, Leading Scorer, Defenseman

    Joakim Ryan (3-20-23)

Subjective Awards

Peter Natyshak-Sam Paolini Award, Career Improvement. This award is open to seniors or, in the rare case, juniors. The award measures how well the player has improved since starting at Cornell.

Randy MacFarlane-Riley Nash Award, Transcendent Beauty and Skating Prowess. The title says it all.

Dave Shippel-Greg Hornby Award, Scrappiness and Effort. This award generally goes to a player who plays "bigger than his size" or "better than his talent."

Terry Gage Award, Determination in a Supporting Role. This award generally goes to an athlete whose contributions do not show up in the box score.

Mike Schafer-Stephen Baby Award, Leadership and Passion. This award needs no explanation.

Brian Hayward-David LeNeveu Award, Leading Goaltender. Based solely on this year's performance, choose our starter in the NCAA Final.

John Carter-Dominic Moore Award, Most Respected Opponent. This award goes to the guy we would take in a heartbeat for one of our own. It is based on his performance against us in games this year.

Doug Dadswell-Ryan Vesce Award, Most Valuable Freshman. Define it however you want. Open only to freshman, not transfers.

Joe Nieuwendyk-Doug Murray Award, Most Valuable Player. Define it however you want, as long as you consider this year's performance alone.

Career Improvement: Mihalek. Axell (although he didn't improve so much as finally stay healthy).
Transcendent Beauty and Skating Prowess: Ryan (except for falling down, losing the puck and giving up a goal at Harvard that cost us a point that eventually ended up costing us 8th place)
Scrappiness and Effort: Lowry
Determination in a Supporting Role: MacDonald
Leadership and Passion: Leadership? nobody. Passion: Bardreau
Leading Goaltender: Iles
Most Respected Opponent: Fallstrom of Harvard. Either of the Joneses of Quinnipiac.
Most Valuable Freshman: Willcox.
Most Valuable Player: How do you want to define this? Most outstanding player?:nobody. Most consistently pretty-good-most-of-the-time?:Greg Miller. Most outstanding individual performance?:Andy Iles. Player who we pretty obviously missed having in the lineup?: Cole Bardreau. Best offensive player?: Brian Ferlin, at least when he shows up. Best defensive player?: Andy Iles. Best all-around player: Joel Lowry or Greg Miller. Guy who I most want on my team?: Joel Lowry (except when he takes stupid unnecessary penalties), Greg Miller. Guy who I least want on my team?: well, that's not the point of this poll, is it?

Count me among the "glass half-empty" guys as far as how this season went. I think it's totally appropriate that: we lost the last game in double overtime; Andy Iles came up one short of the single-game record for saves; Greg Miller finished two points shy of 100 for his career. This team was a day late and a dollar short all season. Every time it had a chance to accomplish something meaningful (e.g., win the Florida tournament, clinch home ice for the first round of the playoffs, go to Atlantic City), it failed. At some point, nothing else matters other than winning games. And we never did that, at least not enough to matter.
