Title: Cornell - Virginia lax
Post by: Al DeFlorio on March 08, 2013, 08:24:44 PM
Tweet from UVAlacrosse:

Tomorrow's #UVALAX game with Cornell has been pushed back to 6 pm at Klöckner Stadium - official release will be on @VirginiaSports soon

I'd check with Virginia sports before planning an afternoon picnic.

Edit:  Looks like it's officially at 6pm ( http://www.virginiasports.com/ )

well could be worse
UVA 6 - 5 Cornell at halftime

RP with just 1 point (1g)
a lot of early turnovers (at least 2 passes thrown very wide of AJ when clearing)

The UVA announcing team makes me want to punch a wall at times and the officiating has been... interesting
(I would still say some home field advantage being given, but there were a few that went Cornel's way in the 2nd Q )

Unbelievable gut-check win against a team that has largely had our number. Overcame 24(!) turnovers to win. A signature victory in what we can hope will be a memorable season.

Excerpted from laxfan1313's posting this morning on laxpower:

"Looking at the many post-game posts, it's clear none of you was aware RP was quite ill prior to the game and finally got his bearings only after halftime."

Explains a lot.  Replacing Donovan with Lintner and putting Pannell back behind the net helped as well.

Pannell not having 5 points at halftime could have been a tipoff.

This is when the road team has a disadvantage: A player is unwell with the flu or a cold or bad cafeteria food and at home he can rest in bed until say two hours before faceoff, or the home team has better accommodations at the stadium. On the road you're in a dingy locker room (the spirit of Ned Harkness lives everywhere) and then this game is delayed 5 additional hours. Unless the extra time let him rest up. Either way, the ending was Cornell by a goal and a great comeback.

This was (obviously) a big win, especially given that it came with Pannell limited and putting up "only" six points.  The team moves up to #2 in the USILA coaches poll behind fellow undefeated Maryland, with former #2 Notre Dame dropping back to #3 after a loss to Hofstra, and is now #1 in RPI and the LaxPower computer rating.

Those "only" six points helped him get Ivy POTW. (http://cornellbigred.com/news/2013/3/11/MLAX_0311133201.aspx):-)

I think the story of the game was all the TO's he committed early.. almost half the team total.  and then suddenly in the 4th he made play after play

That and Doug Tesoriero owning the face-off x in the fourth quarter.
