Title: Cornell and Monmouth in football
Post by: Ken711 on October 10, 2012, 08:18:47 PM
First ever meeting between these schools. It's going to be very difficult for Cornell's defense to control the line of scrimmage against a huge Monmouth OL that averages over 300 lbs.  Cornell's receivers need to step it up and we need to have some sort of running game to take the pressure off of Mathews.

Stats seem typical: 320 total yards for Cornell, 296 from passing

What happened to Matthews?

Over. 41-38 win. Look at this passing line:

Crazy.

What happened to Matthews?

Neck injury from the Harvard game.  The Press newspaper said he was day to day but was improving, and being this was a non-conference game probably wise to let him heal fully before the start of the 5 remaining Ivy  on the schedule.

Makes sense, thanks Ken.

Nice to know his backup can put up Matthews-like numbers. Do you suppose it might have something to do with Coach Austin?

I think the phrase you're looking for is 'it's the system'.

I think it might have to do with the fact that our running game and defense aren't all that great, so we have to throw a lot regardless of who's behind center.

Interesting side note, we started a freshman center because Bullington was still injured and the center snaps went pretty well.
