Title: Football @ Fordham
Post by: CAS on September 06, 2012, 06:44:17 PM
...Saturday, Sept 15 at 1:00.  This could be our best team in a number of years.  See you there!

Oh man... ohhhhhhh man. Might have to take sid to his first football game. Touchdown better show up because the kid loves mascots and I'm not going to have my son talk about the ram for the whole trip back to Brooklyn.

Fordham once had glorious teams, too. Just 3 years ago we got blown out of the water opening at Wagner. IIRC correctly Matthews came on in relief and he looked so good.

Fordham has already played two games this season, including a 28-13 loss last night to a good Villanova team.  Fordham now grants athletic scholarships for football, so this will be a big test for the Big Red.

Nice weather forecast for tomorrow's game.
Title: Re: Football @ Fordham L34-27

Fordham wins 34-27. Amazing passing display by Cornell: Jeff Matthews 38x56, 489 yards, 3 TDs, no interceptions. But we gave up some big plays to Fordham including a 60-yard pass and then a 15-yard TD run on the next (busted) play. Trouble with missed tackles. A couple things went differently, Cornell would have won by 2 TDs. You could say the same for Fordham.

Except for being down by 13 not 6 with a minute to play, Cornell ran a masterful series to score on the final play of the game (no PAT attempt since game was over with the score).

This was Fordham's homecoming and the Rams went all out with a 200-foot tent on their mini quadrangle which is a 2-minute walk from the stadium. Free food for all before, during, after the game, and $2 beers. Looking forward to seeing how Cornell's homecoming turns out in a week. Fireworks Friday night (in Ithaca) is something Fordham didn't have, but they did have Stephen Colbert Friday and a post-game Mass Saturday.

Perfect weather, fullish stadium (capacity is 7,000), made fuller by Kevin Boothe sitting in the stands and watching the game.

[edit add:] This you would not see at Cornell. Every security person, parking lot fee collector, and catering supervisor was in a suit. The security people all had gold ID badges & shields affixed. It looked as if the FBI allowed its Fordham grads to moonlight for the weekend.

The Fordham coach was loud and demonstrative. Related to Bob Gaudet? After one outburst, somebody near us yelled, "Throw a clipboard." Can't be too soon for hockey to start.
