Title: Columbia football aftermath

Band banned (http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-11-17/columbia-band-banned-from-football-finale-after-mocking-its-own-0-9-team.html)

Columbia University's band has been banned.
The Ivy League school's marching band won't be allowed to perform during the football team's home finale against Brown University after mocking its own 0-9 team, Columbia's athletic department said.
Following a 62-41 loss on Nov. 12 to Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, Columbia's band, which routinely plays and sings the school fight song, "Roar, Lion, Roar," after games, changed the lyrics to poke fun at the winless squad, according to the school.
The new lyrics were "something to the effect of, 'Why do we even try, we always lose,'" according to a statement from New York City-based Columbia.
"Our football players, coaches, alumni and parents are extremely hurt, disappointed and angry by the band's behavior at Cornell,"

Band Reinstated (http://www.columbiaspectator.com/2011/11/18/athletics-reverses-band-ban)

QuoteTwo days after the University athletic department informed the marching band that it wouldn't be welcome at Saturday's season-ending football game due to its behavior at last weekend's matchup in Ithaca, the department has reversed its decision, telling the band on Thursday night that it would be allowed to participate in the game as usual.

Perhaps Athletics didn't want an attendance of zero at their final home game. At least this puts about 40 butts in the seats.

Deadspin FTW (http://deadspin.com/columbia-band/).

BTW, at the moment there are three different Ivy League football articles (Columbia band, Harvard Yale QB, Yale coach) on Deadspin's first page menu, which I assume has never happened before and never will again.

To top it off, Columbia defeats Brown 35-28 in 2OT to avert a winless season and snap a ten-game losing streak, dating back to their victory over Cornell last year.

Too bad. As Stanford's tree said in a nyt article I can't be bothered to link to, a more creative punishment for the band would have been to make them watch another game.

I think the band should take credit for inspiring the team to beat Brown.

I saw an AP article today that said Columbia's coach was fired after having a winless season. Did the reporter go to Brown?
