Title: New Recruit - Ryan Bliss
Post by: pfibiger on September 20, 2011, 09:01:49 AM
Ryan Bliss, Defense, St. Paul's Prep.

This kid has had a lot of attention as a minor hockey player, in no small part due to his size: 6'2", 192lbs as a 15 year old. He's going to be huge by the time he enrolls. The Scouting News had one scout referring to him as "a top 20 player in the nation" (at his age). He'd visited at least BU and Yale and Vermont, and chose Cornell over Vermont. There is some "family connection" to Cornell that wasn't specified.

He's now the youngest recruit in the ECAC, three months younger than a kid who just committed to Yale.

We are now absolutely stacked at defense for the next couple of years. Time to land some more high scoring forwards.

Hey.  2012 and 2013 look pretty exciting.  And by 2014 I'll be...

It is not 2014 yet, thank you.

Interesting, last month BBall got a commitment from Tim Higgins, reported to be the earliest Ivy commitment ever (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/recruiting-insider/post/paul-vi-c-tim-higgins-commits-to-cornell/2011/08/29/gIQAbCCFnJ_blog.html). Now we also have the youngest recruit in the ECAC.

Lacrosse, on the other hand, seems to be going the opposite route, with Cornell having the largest group of post-graduate top-10 players (http://insidelacrosse.com/news/2011/08/01/inside-lacrosse-august-issue-%E2%80%94-2011-post-graduate-top-10-recruits) in D-I.

Let's hope that extremism pans out.
