Title: Possible NCAA problems at Cornell Hoops?
Post by: ugarte on July 20, 2011, 12:41:58 PM
It might be nothing, it might be something, but former Cornell coach Scott Thompson is mentioned in this article (http://eye-on-college-basketball.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/26283066/30738623) as a victim in a Ponzi scheme being investigated by the NCAA. The scheme was operated by an AAU coach out of Houston and the implication is that the reason coaches would have invested with him is as a means to get better access to the team's players.

Did we have any Texans during the Thompson era?

I don't know, but I can't imagine CU would have a problem 10-15 years later. They can't say we were killing the league then.

Going back multiple decades, even when something fishy happened with Cornell hoops, such as the minor crime even by Ivy standards of subverting travel money to pay application fees, the outcome was the same: another losing season. Cornell couldn't even cheat successfully.

I can't imagine Cornell facing any problems related to Scott Thompson's investigation.

Confession: I wasn't really paying attention to when the Thompson era was.
