Prior Cornell selections (http://www.tbrw.info/players/cornell_NHL_Draft.html).
5 future Cornellians are ranked in the top 175. I'll be watching tomorrow's coverage of rounds 2-7 on the NHL Network.
I didn't get nothin', I had to pay fifty dollars and pick up the garbage.
Mark Scheifele, almost of Cornell, is the 7th overall pick to the Winnipeg Jets.
Brian Ferlin: Boston (4th rd / 121st overall)
Joel Lowry: LA Kings (5th Round / 140th Overall)
Philippe Hudon: DET (5th Round / 145th Overall)
Lowry taken at 140 (LA) and Hudon at 145 (Detroit) in the 5th.
IINM, Ferlin is the first ECAC player.
He's the highest Cornell selection since Riley, and the first Cornell pick by the Bruins since Bitz.
The ECAC "owns" the later rounds (your joke here). The 3 Cornellians were the first three ECAC players taken. Since then,
RPI (Koudys, Kasdorf)
Yale (O'Gara)
Quinnipiac (Manson)
Harvard (Michalek, Placek, Blackwell)
Brown (Robertson)
Picks 1-120: 0
Picks 121-176: 10
Miami seemed to clean up - for whatever its worth. The usual suspects with the odd exception of BC. Hudon fell a lot further than I expected and Stephen Miller and Ryan not picked? Were they in this draft?
Shocked Hudon fell that far.

Now he just has to prove the doubters wrong
There should be 7 NHL draftees on next year's Cornell team.

I can't wait to watch him forecheck in Lynah
Can't wait to watch this entire deep and talented class, 10 strong, on Lynah ice. Big early season test at Yale. Let's Go Red!

(There's a pony in here, somewhere.) The lower the draft choice, perhaps the less pressure from the pro teams on the student-athlete to depart after the first or second year.

Greg,
Do you have NHL selections by year at Cornell? That is, number of NHL players on each year's team.
Here's the ECAC post on selections. (http://static.psbin.com/o/n/3bfjte2ypc3ul1/NHL_Draft_Sat_2011.pdf)
Quote from: ECAC press release paragraphs 1-2ALBANY, N.Y. -- ECAC Hockey was once again well represented in the annual NHL Entry Draft with the selection of 12 future student-athletes and two current players on June 24–25, 2011, at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota hosted by the NHL's Minnesota Wild. Harvard led the way with four future studentathletes selected, followed by Cornell's three future players, while Quinnipiac, Rensselaer, and Yale had two players selected each.
Born in Jacksonville, FL forward Brian Ferlin was selected in the fourth round (121st overall) by the Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins. Ferlin, who heads to Cornell in the Fall, skated in his second season in Indiana (USHL) and finished third in the league in points (73) and second in power-play goals (12).
The second paragraph was painful to read. Barely better than free online translation (Stanley Cup champion Red Wings?):

No directly, but I could reverse engineer it.

I was interested in looking at our record vs. the number of draft choices.

They sure did. Will be interesting to see where Miami is in four years (ditto Notre Dame) from now in terms of national prominence, conference, recruiting, etc.

The Lowry article mentioned that Myles Bell, a guy ranked #39 by CSB, wasn't drafted at all. You'd think that they'd have mentioned this story (http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/story/2011/04/30/sk-myles-bell-regina-pats-crash-110430.html)... unless they expect that anyone reading the article would already know.
Newspapers paid staff writers poorly and freelancers worse. Online pays worse still. Sites get what they pay for, sometimes $10-$15 a post.

Or this (http://www.cbc.ca/sports/blogs/markseidel/2011/05/nhl-draft-prospects-update.html), which probably does say he wouldn't get picked because of the accident.
ECAC Site has links to video with Ferlin and Hudon.
Brandon Thomas comments in the Ithaca Journal (http://www.theithacajournal.com/article/20110626/SPORTS03/106260337/Three-Cornell-recruits-taken-NHL-draft?odyssey=mod%7Cmostview) on the drafting of Cornell recruits.
Maybe the pros take into account the odds a player will stick it out for four years in college rather than one or two and downgrade accordingly when drafting.

Informative and entertaining, as is typical of Thomas' stuff.

Agree, he's the best IJ hockey writer we've had in a long time. Before he left for his Binghamton time away, I emailed him about how much I liked his articles. As you might expect he emailed a thank you back. Classy guy who really likes CU hockey.

Noticed that Brandon Thomas has joined Cornell's SID office (http://cornellbigred.com/staff.aspx?staff=458). I wonder if Gannett will bother to replace him at the Journal. I believe there's no longer a sports editor in Ithaca and that the section is being run out of Binghamton.

At least he's still involved with the hockey team.
