Title: Men's Basketball Announces Class of 2015
Post by: Ben on June 02, 2011, 06:14:06 PM
Cornellbigred.com statement here (http://www.cornellbigred.com/news/2011/6/1/MBB_0601113826.aspx).

It seems like a decent class, and I'm particularly pleased with the emphasis on the frontcourt after losing three huge players in Coury, Wire, and Osgood.

I thought that Ivy League rules prohibited coaches from commenting on individual recruits until they had actually enrolled.  In this story Courtney touts each one specifically.  It would surprise me if every one of them had enrolled for the summer session, but I suppose it's not impossible.

I think coaches can talk about incoming players once their tuition deposits have been received by the university. All of the various recruiting announcements made by Cornell in the last week or so have comments from coaches about the players.

Brian Delaney interview with Courtney about the new recruiting class.

Definitely a solid class considering Courtney got a late start last April to put this class together when it usually is a 2-3 year cycle. Probably one of the better classes on paper we have gotten in awhile, have to think the Sweet 16 and the new financial aid policy along with Courtney's recruiting reputation made it happen. Besides the bigs also good to bring in some quality guards, Cancer and Cherry, to learn from and take over for Wrobo after next year

Looks like a huge (and necessary) talent infusion.  Potential heirs to Wrobo and Ferry in Cancer and Cherry (who both come from winning programs); some bigs in LaMore and Tomic; an "upside gamble" in Giddens and an athletic wing (Miller) who played at the highest level of Ohio basketball.  With a rising junior class that looks to be settling in as a class of role players (which you need, but you need more to win the league) and a rising sophomore class that is still largely a mystery (injuries/illness limited its two best players to a total of 44 minutes last season), I'm looking to these guys (and Scelfo and Tarwater who are essentially freshman) to step up and play an important role in the upcoming season. But I think they can.

Should be a fun and interesting season watching Coach C in his second season at the helm.

Miller's blurb could have been written by Schafer:

Quote"Shonn will be one of the most athletic players ever at Cornell. He also has a growing skill set, and his potential is limitless."

For years Schafer seemed to have a running gag in the media guide where he would write progressively more abstract, vaguely positive player profiles which actually didn't say anything.  :)

This isn't so vague: "He is athletic but doesn't quite play basketball very well yet. An empty vessel for the coaches to work with. Don't expect to see him much as a frosh."

Not too much of that in this year's announcement (http://cornellbigred.com/news/2011/6/3/MICE_0603114117.aspx). ;-)

Anyone seen even an unofficial hoops schedule for 2011-12?

Not a nonconference schedule but as reported on the Cornell Basketball Blog:

First, some schedule notes. With The Cornell Basketball Blog's announcement of Cornell's games this season against Illinois and Penn State (both of which are projected televised games on the Big Ten Network), only three additional non-conference opponents remain unrevealed to the general public. Below is a listing of the games already publicly announced or which are commonly known "return" games from a year ago.

11/22/11 at Delaware
12/19/11 at Illinois
12/21/11 at Penn State
12/31/11 at Bucknell
at St. Bonaventure
at Stony Brook
at Buffalo
vs Boston U.
vs Lehigh
vs Albany
vs Binghamton

Thanks! Am I correct that the order of Friday-Saturday opponents switches? If for instance, last year Friday at Princeton, Saturday at Penn, then it's the opposite this year? And teams also alternate home early, away later one year followed by away then home?

2011-2012 Schedule (http://www.cornellbigred.com/schedule.aspx?path=mbball&)

Non-conference highlights are @ Illinois, @ Penn State, and @ Maryland.

Middle of the conference schedule is rough with 6 road games in four weeks.
