Title: Women's Schedule 2011-12
Post by: Ben on May 25, 2011, 02:57:07 AM
CornellBigRed.com Announcement (http://www.cornellbigred.com/news/2011/5/24/WICE_0524111543.aspx)

Schedule (http://www.cornellbigred.com/schedule.aspx?path=whockey&)

Getting that pair of games against BU is good, unfortunately the timing sucks. Not sure how good Mercyhurst will be next year, losing Agosta, Scanzano, and Bendus, but still a respectable non-conference slate.

Seems like an opportunity missed to take the Saturday game, make it a 3PM affair at the Garden, with single-ticket admission for the men's and women's games.

I notice that the vs. St. Lawrence game is listed as Akwesasne, NY.  Akwesasne is an Indian nation that straddles the area where NY, Quebec and Ontario meet.  There's a new Federal League team (not the Chiefs), but the Akwesasne Warriors, who play there.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with this schedule.  I definitely think the non-conforence portion of the schedule is better than last year.  Though, it would have been nice to play one of the top WCHA teams.  Mercyhurst certainly will be down a bit compared to the last couple of years, but they're returning some very good players and have a very solid freshmen class.  I don't see them being in the top 4, but my guess is they'll still be ranked.

The SLU game at Akwesasne is a non-league game.  We play at SLU on Jan 27.  I bet this is a recruiting opportunity in the north country for both teams.  While NY girls' hockey does not yet compete with Canadian programs, it is nice to see a chance for more exposure for both programs close[er] to home.

Well, Wayne State is rumored to be cutting its women's ice hockey program.  Looks like, we might have a schedule opening...

Better give Madison a call. Hilary Knight and Brianne Decker against Fortino & Rougeau would be a heck of a game, even if it would be a very hard start to the season.

That news about Wayne State has been confirmed (http://wsuathletics.com/news/2011/5/26/WHOCKEY_0526111002.aspx), and those games are now listed as "TBA" on our schedule.

Sad, but I wonder if there are transfers coming up.

No Badgers, but Mercyhurst and Syracuse added (http://www.cornellbigred.com/news/2011/6/21/WICE_0621114247.aspx) in place of Wayne State. Unfortunately, it's a pair of mid-season midweek games, leaving the players pretty short of competitive games before the ECAC opener at Colgate.
