Title: Turmoil in Charlottsville
Post by: scoop85 on April 29, 2011, 03:16:04 PM
There have been rumors floating around for some time regarding the Brattons status with the Virginia lacrosse program, and now it appears the other show has dropped:  Shamel Bratton kicked off Virginia Lacrosse Team (http://www2.cavalierinsider.com/sports/2011/apr/29/sources-shamel-bratton-kicked-virginia-lacrosse-te-ar-1005922/)

Huntington Station will forever be known as the site of Em Boozers' pub, where you entered by the door and left by the window.

Note bottom of story says without attribution (as if someone wants to be named as the source) that are qeustions about the future of Dom Starsia, the coach. I think he has been a first-class coach and not afraid to speak his mind, for instance noting that outside of the legal issues down at Duke, the players IHO did not set a high standard for good conduct.

Rules are rules but... I hate it when people pop their monocles over college kids drinking.

The people in this case are allegedly the teammates, who elected the in-season prohibition themselves both in an efort to focus on winning a national championship and in recognition of the role of excessive drinking in the Love murder.

If so, I'm down with that.

I agree, there isn't a lot to object to there and, as last night's Friday Night Lights made clear, team sports are - at their best - about character building and if the Brattons can't follow team rules, it is to Starsia's credit that he didn't prioritize his own best interests over those of the team.

... saying it on a board sponsored in part by BNB, a tobacco group.
