Title: Union 1 @ Cornell 3 FINAL
Post by: AdamGanderson on February 22, 2003, 11:18:05 AM
Will Schafer pick up his 100th regular season victory?

Will the Cleary Cup be awarded tonight (if we win and Hahvahd ties or loses)?

Will Maine or Minnesota lose tonight, making our hold on 2nd slightly more comfortable?

All this and more coming to you tonight at 7pm, hopefully making Senior Night all the sweeter.

LETS GO RED!!!!

P.S.  Hey Woofing Gods:  I'm not woofing, just investigating possibilities.  Shouldn't you be bothering the Hahvahd fans?  I mean if they had any...

No broadcast it seems on the Union radio station.  Their last game was broadcast versus Brown on Feb 7.

However, the hockey cam is running again!  Audio and video are decent.

Edit:  With the game now underway, quality has noticeably decreased.  Audio is dropping fairly frequently.

Wait a minute...how do you get the hockey cam to work (considering the two girls hosting the union radio show just said they were leaving and that their replacements hadn't shown up yet)?

is the link.

CU killed off an early Union PP, they're in the midst of their own now.

End of first, Union got one late in the period.  Somebody unassisted.

Edit:  Shots were 9-5 in favor of Union.

It really sound like Cornell didn't come to play in the 1st.  Union got the better of all the chances, and LeNeveu made some great saves, but the goal just got shoved by him.  I really hope the Big Red team that has played the whole season shows up in the 2nd.

Well, I am at home so the Internet connection is only 44kb.  The web cast is basically useless, so I am relying on this thread and the live stats from CUAD for the game in progress.

I hope Cornell will come out and play a better game in the 2nd period.

Don't feel bad Tom, I'm on a very fast network, and the audio and video both cut out very, very regularly...(on the CU goal a minute ago, it took me 30 seconds to actually figure out that we scored for sure.

I am sort of tempted to call in on Teamline to listen.  Anyone has the 1-800 # handy?

Truly awful reception.  It was more or less fine unrtil we started paying for it, now it's much worse than last year.  So we need people in Ithaca to tell us what's going on.

End of 2nd period.  CU looked much better this period.

Shots were 12-5 in favor of CU for the second.

17-14 for the game in CU's favor.

Audio has improved in the last 10 minutes, no?  Still intermitten here and there, but not as bad as the first period, when it really was not watchable.

One more period to go.  LGR!

We seem to have all the momentum in the 3rd...shots have got to be majorly in favor of CU, but we just can't put it in the back of the net!!  LGR!!!

That ENG sounded hilarious....Of course, I couldn't really see it, but Adam mentioned that the Union guy backhanded it into his own net...Matt McRae gets credit for the goal.  And it's 3-1, Final.

Murray is on the ice, in uniform, skating, for senior night...he skated out well, and looks to be ok.

So I was reading through the USCHO posts, and there was a reference to a Union goal in the 3rd being waved off. Now, I was at the game, and I honestly don't remember that. Did I momentarily black out while at the game or did the "no goal" just really not happen?

Really didn't happen unless I blacked out at the same moment. ::screwy::

Union came out flying and moving their feet in 1st period.  We didn't !  saw several Union forwards swing outside and by our d'man in the first... David made at least 2 very good saves that I remember.  Union goal late in period was a long throw in behind our net and Bell and David L. and Mark M. miscommunicated and all three wound up behind the goal line trying to play the puck?  a union player came out with it and managed to stuff it in the empty side as Lenevue tried to slide across...

Cornell picked up our normal strong effort in 2nd and 3rd periods.   but Union playing a very disciplined trap and a lot of stong hooking and holding type of defense with a lot of icing and a strong game from Roth in nets almost held us out.      Our first goal was an excellent effort by Bell and Palahicky and D. Pegoraro deserved it for his hard work...  He and Hornby were hustling all night.      Our second was an excellent tip by Mike K.  on strong low shot from Cook...   set up by S. Hynes using the point man (good thinking) against Union swarming down low.
Union pulled the goalie with just over 2 minutes left and a face off to Lenevue's left.  We cleared the zone twice and on one had a nice shot at the empty net but one of the Union defense mad a good save skating into the middle of the crease.  Then about 25 seconds later when the Union defender was trying to pass backhand cross rink -  Matt McRae on the fore check seemed to tap his stick just enough that it rolled of at a bad angle and slowly went from top of circle into the empty net -  The end.

Thank you Big Red for a wonderful undefeated home season this year! and THANK YOU seniors!
