Title: Cornell v. Stony Brook
Post by: scoop85 on March 22, 2011, 07:22:29 PM
Cornell leads 5-1 early in 2nd period.  Excellent first period, including great job by McMichael winning 4 out of 7 faceoffs.  CU now goes a man down for 30 sec.

Pannell is unbelievable.  The guys need to stay focused though.  We had some efforts earlier this year where it seems like we took our foot off the gas.

That's more like it. This should be an unbeatable lead. Should be.

Pannell 2 goals, 3 assists for 5 points on Cornell's 10 goals. I was noting in posts a couple days ago that Pannell was getting goals but not assists against the top 20 teams. Not here.

11-3 at the half -- Pannell scores with 2 sec. left in the first half.

Have you watched this team the past few years? I hope your right, but i'm still expecting an SBU run.

Pannell with 2 goals and 3 assists at the half.  Faceoffs almost even at 7 us and 8 them.  Fiore with 5 saves.

Sorry, I see SBU and I still think "small business unit." In our losses against Virginia and Army, we ran out of gas midway through the second half. It's the Cornell-Syracuse 2009 issue: Cornell can recruit and coach a solid final four team but not with the depth of a Syracuse or Virginia.
[edit, my bad] I thought I read you expected a Stony Brook win. Doubtful. Stony Brook run, sure, that could happen. Right now they're trading goals to make it 13-5.

Pannell gets it to 15-5 Cornell. 3G, 3A now, I believe. The difference between the two teams may not be 10 goals but Cornell has Stony Brook's number, sort of like Yale and Union have Cornell's number in hockey while others at Cornell's level match up better.

now 15-8 with about 11:00 min left.  It would be nice to stop this run now so we don't have to sweat too much

17-9 final.  What a performance in all phases of the game.

Should be interesting Saturday, with Penn's stingy defense heading to Ithaca.
