It's a shame ... a great guy, a fine coach ... put his heart and soul into trying to turn around his alma mater.... Unfortunately, Tech is a place where good coaches go to die.
At some point, "nice guy" gets drowned out by "4-30-4 season."

Bets on when they reach that conclusion at Harvard?

Considering how slow they were to dump Maz, probably a little while longer.

Wasn't Maz more a case of "two league championships and three trips to the NCAAs after rebuilding a program decimated by Tomassoni" drowned out by "jerkwad?"

But it was a case of "stand by your jerkwad." And Teddy Bald-game is an alumnus, and a semi-famous one at that. Give him another year or 2.

Gladly.

We were all thinking that same thought. We should feel conflicted: Anything that punishes Harvard such as the Cantabs' current coaching regime makes us feel better. But really we want Ivy and ECAC hockey to be good. I'd love to see Union or Yale win the national championship this year so that when we do it in 2013, the words Ivy League Juggernaut are on the cover of Sports Illustrated. I rooted for Princeton to take down Kentucky yesterday in the, ahem, Second Round of the NCAA squeakball tournament. Nice: 4-game play-in is called the first round or even worse the First Four. The guys who thought that up should do something useful like volunteer to stream the fire hoses on reactors 1-4.

First of all, not for nothing, but Union isn't Ivy League, and it sounds like your comment above depends on them being so.
Second, I would love to see Union and Yale go at least a round in this year's NCAA tournament, but I want Cornell to be the next ECAC team to win it all.
Getting back to the topic: man, recruiting at Michigan Tech can't be easy. It's been a long time since they were competitive (the last time they finished in the top half of the WCHA was 1992-93, the last time they lifted a trophy was 1980-81), and to entice players to come and help turn the program around you have to sell them on an engineering school that's marginally better than Clarkson, in a location that's even more desolate than Potsdam. It was an uphill battle for Russell all along, too bad it didn't work out better though.
I knew someone who went to Michigan Tech - he said that they'd hop in the car to go to Florida for spring break and celebrate when they saw "welcome to Ohio" because they knew they were more than 1/3 of the way there.
It's being reported that longtime Michigan assistant coach Mel Pearson, who played for Michigan Tech from 1977 to 1981, will follow Jamie Russell as head coach of the Huskies.

One less opening for our coaches to be linked with, I guess.
Maybe this was posted before and I missed it, but Jamie Russell is going to Providence to be Assisstant under Leaman. (http://www.uscho.com/2011/05/31/former-michigan-tech-coach-russell-replaces-berard-as-providence-assistant/) I only check CHN and USCHO every week or so, in the offseason.:-D
