Cornell leading 6-1 early 2nd. Hobart plagued by penalties. Two goals, one assist for Pannell.
Hofstra leading Princeton 9-6 at the half after being down 1-4.
Edit: Cornell 8-2 with 1:36 to go in first half. Pannell 2 goals, 3 assists--the last assist very nice.
Edit: 8-2 at the half; shots 30-12; Fiore with 4 saves; goals by Pannell (2); Bronzino; Lang; Lau; McMichael; Gilbane; Mike O'Neil. Middies doing some scoring.
Penn 5, Duke 0 at the half!!!
The team looks much sharper than this time last year. FO's still a concern (even though the stats show us taking 5 out of 11), but otherwise nothing to complain about.
What is this watching the longsticks run to the net and score?

5 out of 17 early in the 4th. Not good at all. Against a good team that will hurt them.

Not much would make me say this, but GO QUAKERS!
We are lapsing back into last year's late collapses. The team just loses intensity for some reason. I don't think it's conditioning.

Yes, flashbacks to Princeton and Loyola coming to mind
Big goal by Bronzino (2nd of the game) to stop the run -- 12-7 CU
Bronzino gets his 2nd goal. What is it? Five goals by longsticks today?
6 our of 24 now on FOs...heck, guess it's going to hurt 'em against bad teams.
Modest edge in GBs. If they're going to suck on FOs it'd be nice if they could dominate GBs.
Finals: Penn 7, Duke 3; Hofstra 11, Princeton 9
14-9 final. Some good things, but things to work on as well. Pretty solid first-game effort
All in all, a good start to the DeLuca era. I think Hobart scored 2 or 3 goals after Fiore makes the save, Cornell takes possession, and then there is a turnover point blank in front of the crease. You have to hope that improves.
Most encouraging part of the game was Fiore's play and offensive production from the midfield. Pannell got his, but relatively quiet games from Mock and Bremner. Something needs to be done about face-offs. I don't know who it's going to be, but if we keep having face-off performances like that we will get smoked by some of the better teams.
Agree on Fiore. Hard to tell on Redcast, but none of his goals looked particularly soft and he seemed to make some nice saves. He just needs to relax a bit on the clear and not try to force things; bad passes led to to two TOs and Statesmen goals.
Recommend watching Coach DeLuca's post game press conference, which is up on the Cornell web site. You can feel his passion in leading Cornell lacrosse.
I'm happy to have one of our own, he is going to be great and I can't be more excited.....

Al,
I played midfield back in the days before LSM. When I complained to the coach that a defender ran to take a shot on a break rather than pass for a more sure goal, he explained that except in a tight game there's no way a defender will turn down a chance at a goal.
I didn't see yesterday's game, but your post seems to prove my old coach right.
