Title: Boston Blazers lax lap dance
Post by: billhoward on January 18, 2011, 05:03:07 PM
Six degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon, maybe just two from the Duke Blue Devils: The Boston Blazers indoor lacrosse team held a halftime contest to see who could give the best lap dance to the team's mascot, Scorch. It was unclear if the winner was chosen based on decibels, a protractor, or what. Parents attending with children said they were shocked, shocked ... the team apologized ... and there will no doubt be a surge of interest in youth lacrosse in the Bay State.

Story: Lacrosse team sorry for 'lap dance' show (http://www.upi.com/Odd_News/2011/01/18/Lacrosse-team-sorry-for-lap-dance-show/UPI-21131295382688/)
Not clear why UPI put "lap dance" in quotes. Maybe it's a new term, like "man-up" or "to the cloud," that isn't considered common across the heartland yet.

(Thanks to the eLynah patriot who passed this along and now leads a much more demure life than during undergraduate years, so I get to post the objectionable stuff.)

I saw this on the news and wondered if it would make its way onto this forum. I should have known!

Of course it's on the forum. It's a combination of hard news and human interest with a hint of sex ... the underpinnings of great journalism. Combine that with celebrity appeal and you take it to the next level: Venus Williams over the weekend wearing flesh colored spandex under her short tennis dress to create a commando look. (Sharapova tries that, you'd measure the response not with web hits but a Richter scale.) See:

(The New York Times will probably cover this by tsk-tsking about how many papers and sites write about it. They can titillate in the guise of being the last vestige of respectable journalism.)
