Title: Vesce Milestone approaching
Post by: Beeeej on February 17, 2003, 06:45:58 PM
With his two goals at Hahvahd, Ryan Vesce now has 93 career points, and four regular season games remaining this year.  It'd be very cool to see him hit 100 as a junior.

Greg, John, or anybody else who happens to know - when's the last time a Cornell player reached the 100-point plateau as a junior?

I think I read somewhere recently that Nieuwendyk was the last to hit 100 as a junior--and he never did get to being a senior.  I'm sure Arthur has the answer.;-)

Keep in mind that there's no distinction between regular-season and playoff points in NCAA  hockey stats, so Vesce has at least 6 games to reach 100.

A little bird has just informed me that Nieuwendyk was indeed the last Cornell junior to hit 100 points - which he did in the first game of his junior season, 1986-87.

And while we're at it (thanks, little bird), Mark McRae currently has 91 points, and if he reaches 100 before the end of his senior campaign, would be the first Cornell defenseman to reach that mark since Chris Norton '88.  Two others have done it - Peter Shier '78 and Dan Lodboa '70 - but they each played one season as a winger.  Norton is the only pure defenseman (thus far) to reach 100 points at Cornell.

P.S. The brief's going just fine, thanks.  Would someone please tell the Patchogue-Medford Union Free School District to kiss my ass?  Thanks very much.

Keep in mind, though, that Lodboa only played three seasons--and had 61 points as a senior and 37 as a junior, giving him 98 in two 29-game seasons as a defenseman.

I hope Ryan gets his 100th; that would be great.

He's been my favorite player since the Red-White game, when I won the "Join the Team on the Bench" prize, and Vesce (the coach of the Red team, as you may recall) was incredibly nice, first taking me into the locker room to meet the team before they came out for the second half. In fact, funny anecdote - Baby told me that if I saw them doing anything wrong on the ice, to make sure I let them know. Turned out my job was opening the door during line shifts :)

Anyway, I digressed a bit, but it would be great if both Vesce and Mark McRae get to 100 by the end of the season.

Random fact:

Only 4 of Vesce's 93 points have been against Harvard.

Meanwhile, 15 of Paolini's 81 career points have been against Harvard, which I think is quite impressive.
