Title: World Junior Championships 2011
Post by: Ronald '09 on December 07, 2010, 11:16:21 AM
Andy Iles named to the 29-man roster that will gather in Albany on December 16.  The roster will be cut down to 22 by December 22, but they only named 2 goalies, so he will be on the final roster barring injuries.  He will likely backup Jack Campbell.  Obviously, this means he will miss the Florida tournament.  The gold medal game is January 5, so he should be back from the Princeton/Q weekend.

Great experience for him.  I hope he gets some action, since Campbell will be the clear #1

Actually, not a bad development for us either. In past years this would have meant losing our #1 goalie for Florida. This year, since Schafer seems to be alternating goalies, both Garman and Iles will get high-level experience (assuming Ilse sees some ice time in the WJC).

Let's hope he gets some ice time ... even if he never gets into a game, practicing with the best can only help.

He had some ice time against RPI, looks like he and Campbell split duties.  1 GA, didn't face many shots.  Boxscore - US National Jr Team vs RPI (http://www.uscho.com/box/mens-hockey/2010/12/19/exhib-vs-rensselaer/)

It was am entertaining game. Andy was screened on the goal he allowed. The shoot out went on for ever and was fun too.

Hopefully it will be posted on rpitv.

They have said that they would post it. Due to finals being this week, they did not have the usual compliment of people and cameras involved, so, for example, there were no replays.

A video of the shootout has already been posted http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVQMG3HmNM8. Allen York was visibly hurting from what was later described as a cramp. It surprised me that he was left in considering that it was an exhibition game.

RPI was significantly outplayed during the game offensively, but York and the defense held up as they have all season. I have been pleasantly surprised how rapidly three freshman defensemen and a transfer have fit in this year.

Iles makes the final 22-man roster (http://www.usahockey.com/world_junior_championship_2011/default.aspx?id=295910).

Campbell and Iles split yesterday's game against Norway, a 6-1 U.S. win (http://www.usahockey.com/world_junior_championship_2011/default.aspx?NAV=AF_03&id=296588&DetailedNews=yes). Iles gave up the Norway goal in the third.

Iles just took over with a little over 9 minutes to go and a 4-0 lead over Germany.  No injury, just to get some experience.

EDIT: On NHL network for anyone who isn't watching but see soon enough to put it on.

EDIT 2: He didn't make a save.  4-0 team USA final.
