Title: RPI Goaltender Allen York, on Playing at Lynah
Post by: TimV on October 18, 2010, 09:50:05 AM
Tim Wilkins column yesterday in the Albany Times Union (http://www.timesunion.com/default/article/A-conversation-with-RPI-goaltender-Allen-York-710078.php)

QuoteIt's kind of cool, especially at Cornell. It's an atmosphere you don't get at any other level of hockey. In college sports, they are on you pretty consistently.

Q: What is the most creative thing anyone ever yelled at you?

A: I remember my freshman year and I was making an attempt at growing some long hair and it wasn't the best. My hair is kind of curly and it looks like a big mop when it gets long. When we were at Cornell ... during the national anthems, I heard one of the fans from the student section yell out, 'Hey, York! It's called conditioner!' I laughed out loud.

I misread the post title, and I thought someone had died.

I too misread the post title - as "RIP" - but assumed it was just the OP ragging on RPI.

QuoteQ: How fast do the pucks come at you?

A: Do you want a scientific answer?

Q: As scientific as you can get.

A: Gee, I don't know. I know they're coming quick.
Not quite scientific.::dribble::

In fairness that's a somewhat asinine interview question.

Somewhat is too mild, asinine by itself is OK. I actually thought the whole interview was asinine. It was what you'd expect from a high school reporter. Certainly not what we get from Brandon Thomas.

Anyone want to step up and take credit for that line?

I'm almost certain that was LaJollaRed. Will ask.

I wish I could take credit for that one, but I honestly don't remember.

I certainly remember HIM, though...And I remember several others:

J-O-?-N from that Canadian team...

There's a Hole-In-Your-Sock-Joe-Grossman!

Your parents hate each other, Dov Grumet-Morris!

The goalie we sang "Happy Birthday" to because they let him stay in after he let in four soft goals...

Dekanich (sp?) who they made "drive home with the booster club."

One of my personal favorites: "Do not be alarmed! Right now the staff at the Ithaca Sheraton is rummaging through your luggage! What's that white powder they found, (goalie's name)?! Drugs are bad! Drugs are bad (ad infinitum).

Or this one: We talked it over with the police, (goalie's name)! You're leaving here in hand-cuffs!

Hey (goalie's name)! I hope you're majoring in something employable!

Hey (goalie's name)! Do you even like hockey?! Or was this something your step dad made you do?

Hey (goalie's name)! you're blowing it! There were scouts here tonight! They came to see you! And they left! They left, (goalie's name)! They felt so BAD for you. We feel bad for you! We feel bad! We Feel Bad!...

Hey (goalie's name)! Have you considered softball!?

Hey (goalie's name)! Only one more season and you can stop playing!

Hey (goalie's name)! I dropped something! Can you help me find it?!

Hey (goalie's name)! Your team hates you! That's that team meeting was you missed - !

Today, actually, I was recalling this one:

There was a guy on some team, whose last name was Beavis. (A quick IHDB search doesn't show him)...During the first period someone, not me, made the requisite "Where's butthead?!" jeer, and we all chuckled. During the second period, someone who decided to wander into the game 60 minutes late screamed the exact same thing. Maybe it was my annoyance that this face-timer (remember that phrase? No one uses that on this thread much anymore) was late, or maybe it was the Rulloff's liver candy, but I nicely took him down a notch:

WOAH! WOAH!! Everyone! Don't be alarmed!!! That guy! He has a TIME MACHINE!! He's visiting us from the world of thirty minutes ago! Nobody say anything! Do not reveal to him the secrets of the future Go back, you space warrior! Go back to your world of ere!

I miss college so much.... [cries onto stack of casebooks]

Oh, and I definitely wouldn't have yelled anything during either of the national anthems. He must be remembering wrong.  ::drunk::

It's one of the more asinine interviews that I have ever read. York had to suffer through an interview from the Troy Record recently also http://www.troyrecord.com/articles/2010/10/12/sports/doc4cb3e94b5db8f265735674.txt.

I was there for that one.  I was in Section A that season.  It got all of us laughing, too.
