Title: Cornell's website
Post by: ugarte on July 30, 2010, 10:45:10 AM
Please compare this (http://cornell.edu/) to this (http://xkcd.com/773/).

Man, I have thought this so many times.

Seriously, why DO they make it so hard to find a useful map?

I suppose it could be larger, but there is a "Maps" hyperlink on the front page. The top horizontal menu could definitely use a "Visiting" link, though.

Try http://cuinfo.cornell.edu/.  Information rather than PR

So true. I would add in the "what people want" part of the diagram, athletic schedule/on-line accessibility and scores. But that is just me.  ;-)

How did I not now about xkcd comics? Just what I need, another on-line time sink ::help::.

At least a link to Athletics, please.

XKCD has been a staple in Cornell students humor lives for quite awhile.  Don't forget that you have to mouse over the comic for the punchline/explanation.  There's also a website dedicated to explaining each day's comic when it's more nerdy.

xkcd is great, but I've always found the metajoke there is that there's no reference to financial or employee information, which is what parents and workers go to the university web site to look for.  Not that I don't mind a trip down student memory lane sometimes.

(BTW, how old is that guy by now?  Does he have a job?)

I'm a devoted reader of PHD comics (http://www.phdcomics.com/comics.php), but maybe because I'm more life science geek than a physics one, xkcd never made it onto my radar screen. However when I was at Cornell, I did play hockey with a bunch of physicists, electrical engineers etc. but that was back when this whole internet thing was just starting :-O.

There's a link to Athletics smack-dab in the middle of the page.  Or you could just get accustomed to typing "cornellbigred.com" instead of "cornell.edu" into your browser.

You have to scroll down to find it.  I was thinking in terms of a link on the main menu.

BTW, I have "cornellbigred.com" bookmarked.  "Cornell.edu" I still need to type in.  ::whistle::
