Brown 0 - 0 Cornell

End of 1st.

Brown is checking pretty hard and they got more forechecking going on as well.

Saw some great hockey from R.Nash as usual and good saves from Scrivens.

Although Brown is outshooting us, we had some quality shots and setups so we shouldn't be worried.

Brown forechecking very aggressively.  Have to take advantage with odd-man rushes.

It took a long time, but finally 1-0.  We have played better in the last 2 minutes than the previous 34.  Light the lamp.  Let's go to center ice.  GO BIG RED!!!

Weird play.  Puck gets past the Brown goalie, hits some part of the goal behind him, he looks dejected, Cornell celebrates, but no red light, and the play isn't blown dead until a linesman does so a few seconds later.  Goal awarded after a brief look at replay.

I think I speak for everyone when I say, "like to see him break that record with another one tomorrow". :-|

Riley Nash also got his 100 career point on the goal, right?

Yep -- first Cornell junior to reach 100 points since Matt Moulson (Moulson's 100th point was his assist on Mike Iggulden's GWG against Ohio State in the 2005 NCAA tournament).

My thoughts on last nights game.

Brown played the first period with a lot of heart and our guys weren't really on the ball.  Brown set up in a 1-2-2 and just let our guys try to skate through it...which they couldn't.  While we were outshot, I did think most of Brown's shots weren't that dangerous.  Our guys were being out hustled to the puck, and the concern was if we made a mistake, they'd lock the door like they did with Yale.  Fortunately, we were hitting the crap out of them.  One of those hits was on #3, who left the ice somewhat woozy.  He never returned, so they were playing with only 5 D-men.

2nd period our strategy changed.  We sent a winger deep along the boards into the 1-2-2 and had him tip the puck deep into the Brown zone then we chased after it.  Our speed started to show.  We started getting to pucks, and Brown started to get out of formation.  That lead to Jillson's goal, which was a pretty shot.  From then on, we dominated in the second.

Third period was Scriven's moment to shine.  Brown got desperate and started playing a little harder.  They had a couple of good chances including a breakaway, but Scrivens said no.  After Riley's goal, it was pretty much locked up, though Brown kept fighting.  Give them credit for that.

Now on to Union.
