Title: Player-Related Songs
Post by: French Rage on February 10, 2003, 11:33:16 PM
So after this year's class graduates, we'll lose baby and the McRae's, and will have no songs left relating to specific players.  Well, there's the Underhill one where people say LeNeveu now, but I don't know how many people actually say that during it.  I always these songs were one of the best parts of the Lynah cheers.  Does anyone know if the band has any plans for new songs next year?

Well, there were some plans being made to replace "McRaes" with "Olsens", but those have been, um, rethought.   ::nut::  A lot of people this season have starting adding "Abbotts" after "McRaes", though, so that cheer will probably continue.

As far as I know, though, nobody in the band has been looking at the recruiting reports for potential song candidates.

I predict that an "Abbott-sa" cheer will replace the "McRae-sa" cheer (as the band has already started following "McRaes" with "Abbotts").

Personally, I can't wait until someone comes up with something catchy to go along with the Miller Time song... (Moulson time?) - even if it is spelled wrong.  After all, his number IS a case ;-)

I think I will arrange "In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida" and force people to say "Pegoraro-da-vida" instead  ::nut::

Ok, this is probably a stretch, but what about a spin-off of the oldie "Peggy Sue"... obviously would need to be turned around quite a bit, but still.  I've seen him referred to as Peggy in a few articles.

"Abbotts" doesn't really work, though.  Originally, it was "Auger," to rhyme with Olé.  (unless there was someone else before Vinnie Auger...but that was the cheer when I first started going to CU games).  Then "McRae...s" followed, for the similar rhyme scheme.  Unless you can figure out a way to make Abbotts rhyme with that, it'll sound really wierd to me.  Oh well...constantly changing.  I'll miss the "Hey Bâby" cheer, though.

I like "Pegoraro-da-vida".....hehe.  Also, not a song, but is there any incoming freshman that we could do the "S-V-O-B-O-D-A...Svoboda...Svoboda" cheer for?  Needs 7 letters and 3 syllables.  Only LeNeveu fits that now, and it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to do for a goalie...plus the accent seems wrong.

Actually, if you listen to the way Arthur and Adam say it, the accent is on the second syllable, as it is in Svoboda.

Well, there's always S-V-O-B-O-D-A ... Varteressian!

Too bad Varteressian doesn't dress more often. I loved the weird looks I'd get yelling that....

I know "Hey Baby" was being played before Bâby was on the team, but what about altering the song slightly after this season is over to "Heeeeeeey Hey Hornby, I want to know...will you kill someone? (Please kill someone!)"  I think it works. :-D
