Sorry in advance for the shameless nature of this post, but if you're interested, here's my preview on CHN of all four ECAC quarterfinal series: http://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2010/03/11_ecacquarterfinal.php
And previews of all the other series mentioned above as well: http://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/tourneywatch.php
Should be a fun weekend.
Wow, Brown defeats Yale. That's messed up.
Bemidji goes down in CHA semis. That's no good for any team on the bubble...
Union-Quin into OT 2-2
Michigan blows out MSU, 5-1.
Cornell and Yale currently tied for 9 in PWR (http://www.uscho.com/rankings/pwr.php). No doubt this will change ten more times tonight.
Quick scan of the evening's scores:
Home teams were losing in most conferences (awaiting WCHA results in particular).
Should really shake things up in the playoffs, and make for great internet listening.
Union and Q going into 2ot.
Union and Q have finished OT1, currently in intermission awaiting OT2
13 minutes left in the 3rd, UND 4 v. Minnesota 0.
Now 5-0 UND.
Final 6-0 UND.
In case anyone missed this new definition of sieve:
Quote from: ECAC RecapBrown wasted little time in grabbing a lead, as Buvinow scored just seven seconds after the second period's opening faceoff. Sophomore Jack Maclellan (Calgary, ALB) won the faceoff back to Buvinow on his right and the defenseman skated backwards with the puck and then up to the red line, firing a wrist shot through traffic from Brown's side of the redline. His shot sailed past everyone and beat Blase through the five-hole for the 1-0 lead.
Union with all kinds of chances in the 2nd OT, including on a PP. I'm pulling for the Dutchmen, but given their history, it seems inevitable that they'll lose.
QU - Union going into the 6th period.
Q-Pac goes on the PP with about 5:30 left in the 2nd OT. Doesn't bode well for U.
Rooting for Union also. Best case is if they take 2 of 3 and play a total of 12 or more periods. Soften them up for the seminfinal game though they might not be our opponent.
Epic fold by St. Cloud. Mankato ties them with under a second in regulation, then wins in the first 20 seconds of overtime. Reminds me of the Cornell-Michigan NCAA game (http://www.tbrw.info/seasons/1991/box19910315.html) in 1991. Note that Doug Derraugh assisted on both goals. Derraugh is now the Cornell women's coach. :-)

And if we don't win in Albany, this could be why we don't go to the NCAAs. Hard to believe they are going to allow UAH (12-19-4) or Niagara (10-17-3) in the NCAAs.

Good reason to win, then. ::cheer::
Can't quite tell for sure, but I think the Fighting Sioux just beat Minny 6-0.

UMD 3 - CC 2 in OT.
Union - Q going for 3 OTs! ::popcorn:: ::banana::
Union/Q
::popcorn:: will soon become ::snore::
The trash talk on the Denver-MTU game thread consists solely of references to heavy drinking in the UP. :-}

Just heard a family planning PSA on Schenectady radio. Write your own joke.
OT3 underway at Union.
3rd OT underway in Schenectady. Thank god they got rid of the stupid three point series.
I like the Q announcer. Audio link-->
No scoring at Union now for over 88 minutes.
Union announcer (just 1?) [edit: yep, just 1] doing a decent job despite being a the rink since 4:30. He did say "we're in the third overtime, the score is tied ... obviously." Wish he said "Union" or "Quinnipiac" more often so you know who was on the breakaway.
4(ot) coming up.
5th longest game in NCAA history so far. 1:05 away from #4. 3:53 away from #3.
Denver squeaks by MTU 2-1.
4th OT is underway....
Air Force defeats Army in a game that began after regulation at Union had ended.
The audio links above no longer work for someone who wasn't already listening. I think the errors are due to it being after midnight and the sites believing the games should be archived--not live--now.
I found this link which is where I just started listening:

2nd longest game. Union has played in both.
And Adam gets a shout out.
Quote from: Trotsky2nd longest game. Union has played in both.
Announcer points out he's done both the longest and second longest games, both with Union.
I don't really care who wins but I am listening out of pure respect for the players, fans and broadcasters.::bugeye::
This is ridiculous. But I really gotta respect this announcer.
Quinny announcers really upset over this penalty called against Atkinson.
12:30 a.m. late in the fourth overtime, Quinnipac whistled for a penalty. And Union gets whistled 12 seconds later.
And on we go to period #8.
According to announcers, if they go beyond 1:35 into the 5th OT, this will be longest game in NCAA history.
12:35 a.m. Saturday. Three periods, four overtime periods played. It's been quite a while since Brian Unger the announcer has said, "Next goal wins it."

The players' grandchildren will hear this story how many times in their lives?
CHN posted the 40 longest games next to the comment that this is going into the 5th OT...

141:35 is the record. We're at 140:00.
Shots are 71-55 Union.

That's the men's record.
According to Wikipedia anyway, "On March 10, 1996, New Hampshire defeated Providence, 3-2, in an ECAC Women's Championship game after 85:35 of overtime."
EDIT: that may be inaccurate - according to their source, http://www.uscho.com/ncaad1/?data=longest_games (scroll all the way down), there were 5 10-minute overtimes, so that wouldn't add up to their total length.

5th OT almost underway... the buzzer just went off.

So if you're a Union fan when do you just give up and stop hoping that your team will ever win in the playoffs? Geez, losers in both of the two longest games in history.
Kind of gives you a little perspective. :-P

From today's Get Fuzzy comic strip. It might summarize the feelings of the Union hockey team.

Certain fans from Chicago just collectively rolled their eyes.
