Title: Alumni in the Pros - March 2010
Post by: sah67 on March 02, 2010, 09:54:57 PM
The Islanders are advertising a "March with Moulson" package, with nets you two pairs of tickets, a puck autographed by Matt Moulson, and a Matt Moulson t-shirt for a low, low price ranging from $229 to $549 depending on the location of the tickets.

You can also start saving your pennies, dimes and c-notes for a NYI Matt Moulson game worn jersey. (http://islanders.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=505065) At $650, you will need more c-notes than pennies ::wow::.

Interesting that Moulson and Schremp are the only two players with all five jerseys already sold (as of this writing).  Only four Tavares jerseys are sold at $5,500!

According to Bob McKenzie, Bitz is headed to Florida as part of a package for Dennis Seidenberg.

Excellent. I will get to see him play on Saturday and can wear my Cornell jersey. I just might yet have a rooting interest in the Panthers.

Maybe, especially if you wait until I get the 35 mm film developed. Yes, it's true, I am probably one of the dozen or so people in the US without a digital camera.

Bitz isn't in the line-up tonight against Philly (His flight to the sunshine state didn't arrive in time for the opening face-off). Just over 2 minutes into the game and already there have been 3 fights, and one minor penalty to FL. At this rate, the Panthers penalty box will need an addition!

My assumption is he was brought up to replace Scott Nichol who is out with a shoulder injury from the hit by Montreal's Laperierre, out 7-10 days.

Bitz looked pretty good tonight, but in the last 5 min or so of a then 2-1 game his spot on Stillman's line was taken by Kreps. Probably to minimize mix-up in communications between new teammates rather than anything Bitz did wrong during the game.

Is Bitz really that tall, or is Stillman really that short? Stillman barely came up to Bitz's shoulders. My brother somehow managed to get our seats upgraded from the 400 nosebleeds to 7 rows behind the goal FL defends twice. So yes, I could see the height difference.

Sorry French Rage:
Quote from: espn.comThe Sharks recalled D Jason Demers from Worcester before the game to replace Douglas Murray, who is day to day after being hit in the skate by a slap shot Thursday against Nashville.

The latest says Douglas is back:

Quote from: David Pollack, Bay Area News GroupsANAHEIM — Looks as if Douglass Murray is only going to miss one game because of the injury suffered while blocking that shot against Nashville.

The big defenseman skated this morning and word here at the Honda Center is that Murray will be in the lineup tonight against the Ducks.

Matt played a great game, was winning battles for the puck all night long.  Billy Jaffe (doing color) referred several times to "the arrogant Vancouver press" who think they know hockey and couldn't even get Matt's name right, calling him "Matt Coulson" in both the article and in their list of Islander leading scorers.  I found this link to the article:
http://www.faceoff.com/hockey/teams/story.html?id=2687401
Rob Carlin joked with Matt about it in an interview between the 2nd and 3rd.
It was also nice for this Isles fan from the old days to hear Jiggs McDonald doing the play-by-play on MSG last night.

Although it speaks as much to Islanders futility as it does to alumni prowess, Moulson has become the first Islander to score 25+ goals in a season since '06-'07.

Matt also made NHL.com's "Quote of the Day""

Quote from: QUOTE OF THE DAY \\"Hopefully after this game, in my home country, they can spell my name right. (The writer) seems to think my name is Coulson. I'm not going to lie -- it ticked me off.\\" -- Islanders' LW Matt Moulson after scoring his team-high 26th goal Tuesday in Vancouver

In Sharks news, Murray was back on the ice last night against the Dallas Stars and was a -2 in an 8-2 loss.

In the late 70's and early 80's, additional expansion & WHA integration created a demand for more players.  The USSR and Czechoslovakia weren't freely exporting players yet, so the early 80's are when the NHL finally started to draft college players in numbers.  Give them some time to mature and voila!

You are correct! 158 is his number of postseason games (http://hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=3969), which is the column next to penalty minutes. O'Byrne may be catching up to Murray, with 175 PIM (http://hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=72665), but neither are close to Nieuwendyk (677) yet.
