The clock has been reset and Crystal Mangum has another 15 minutes coming. She was been busted for attempted murder, arson, and identity theft after a fight - sorry, alleged fight - with her boyfriend. Mangum accused four Duke lacrosse players of rape back in 2006. Here's the Associated Press (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/19/sports/ncaabasketball/19duke.html) version of the story and if you google her name, you'll find about 300 more articles offering insight and commentary into what a lying ho she always must have been and what all-round paragons of virtue the wrongly accused were. The one piece of good news is that the overzealous district attorney remains disbarred.
Bail was set at $1 million. Like in case she maybe could come up with $500,000, but not a million.
Oh, thank god this has been brought up again. I'm sure the discussion will be productive.
I thought about posting this when I saw the story last week but I resisted the temptation. (But I can't resist the temptation to post on it.)
About the only productive thing that could come out of the whole incident is for people to learn that they shouldn't jump on stories based on how they fit your preferred narrative. The latest chapter could reinforce this lesson. It probably won't though.

The epilogue is also a preferred narrative. Just somebody else's. **]

Very true. Like I said, "it probably won't." :-P

I'm unfamiliar with this story. Who are these people?
Crystal Mangum, the woman who claimed she was raped by Duke lacrosse players in 2006, then recanted, was convicted and sentenced for the 2011 killing of her boyfriend. If you're scoring at home, the tally is now: Rich White Male Privilege 25 Trillion, Rich White Male Victimization 1.
RWMV with a late push, though.

Clearly, the legal system should have thrown the Duke lacrosse players to the wolves, because racial justice and some of those RWMs probably did something to deserve it anyway. Just wearing that uniform, they were asking for it.
