SOG (final):
Cornell: 43
UNH: 22
Powerplays:
Cornell - 0/3
UNH - 0/4
Cornell going on its first powerplay with 3:11 left in the 1st.
We've been controlling the play well and negating UNH's speed on the big ice for the second half of the period.
5x3 for 1:06 now.
5x3 for 1:06! w00t! LGR!!
Schafer calls a timeout with 2:18 left in the first period, to set up the 5x3...this has worked before.
Pull the goalie?
5x3 over...54 seconds of 5x4 left. Good chances on the 5x3 but UNH was quick to block lanes and Foster made some big saves.
UNH back to full strength.
That's the best I've seen Cornell play in the offensive zone this year. Maybe we need a "big sheet" in Lynah.
The difference between the first two minutes of the period and the final eighteen was like night and day.
Are these silver jerseys new for UNH at home, or have they used them in previous seasons?
Barry Melrose did a nice analysis of what Cornell needs to do better on PP especially: Riley Nash needs to unleash the shot the minute the puck is on his stick. (One difference from college to the pros is quickness getting a shot off). The announcers started the game describing Cornell's play in terms of what UNH did or didn't do then got around to appreciating Cornell on its own.
Odd reflections off the ice sheet make it look like the ice is worn even at the start of the period. UNH silver (?) jersey tops also look unusual, too. And the acoustics are dead as if nobody's there (it's not full but it's not empty either). Regardless, great to see Cornell on TV with no competiton from the Gianst-Vikings game, that having ended by about the start of the second quarter.
Dryden mentioned once. Still waiting for him to be acknowledged for that 29-0 season the year after he was graduated.
LGR! I really wish I could find some ESPNU online stream. with so many much more obscure channels being streamed, I figured ESPNU wouldn't be so hard. anyone has a link???
For what it's worth, I've been watching the UNH online stream. Video's been decent resolution and smooth, audio is rough but doable, and the announcers are fine. The cameramen are also very competent ::burnout::
Some more good chances to start the second...Foster is keeping UNH in the game.
Scali's having a great game offensively.

Or the post, as was the case in his last save.
UNH powerplay coming up...D'Agostino going to the box for a cross-check. The first penalty of his Cornell career.
Penalty killed, but UNH hit the crossbar just before their pp expired.
And UNH takes a penalty just after ours finishes.
We definitely looked like we were having some trouble covering the ice at the end of that power play. Don't know if that's a function of the ice size or a well-executed UNH offensive.
UNH kills the penalty...just over 9 mins remaining in the second.
UNH goal. 1-1 8:10 left in the 2nd.
Cornell goal @12:31, Patrick Kennedy. 2-1 Cornell.
What line is Kennedy on?
Quote from: edge88What line is Kennedy on?
Riley Nash and Jillson
Scrivens bobbles the puck while making a save on a 2-on-1 for UNH and now it's 2-2.
Scali and DeSimone off for coincidentals: 4x4...now over.
1 min remaining in the second.
End of second.
Barry Melrose just called Cornell the best team he's seen this season. He also made a comment earlier: "Cornell has a lot of Canadians . . . a lot."
As for the game, if we lose it, it will because we dominated the first two periods, but as usual, couldn't finish our chances. It looks like we may be held to 2 goals for the third straight game, and we're not going to win many games scoring just two goals. The good news is we are outskating and outplaying the first place team in Hockey East.

Canadians on the Cornell team, Melrose says. I suppose when you have to bang off a lot of hockey games to make a living, you don't have time to study every team in depth. But Melrose knows the game.

Agree, but worth noting that UNH hasn't played since December 11. Kind of like Cornell's situation in Estero.
Cornell has had 33 shots on goal through two periods. More than we've had in any full game since the 5-2 win against Princeton in November.
From a UNH fan on the USCHO forums: "Riley Nash is a beast."
If only our beast scored some more goals ;)
Patrick Kennedy loses control of the puck with a wide open net staring him in the face.
Cornell goal (Collins), 14:48 left.
Great puck possession by Esposito leads to Collins pounding in a rebound!
3-2
Cornell taking UNH to school now: possession in the Wildcats end for nearly 5 full minutes.
And now a goal! Krueger!
4-2. Tremendous effort!
4th goal now credited to Riley Nash...he deflected Krueger's shot.
Patrick Kennedy off for a slash. UNH pp.
UNH has a wide open net on the back-door, but hits the post.
Penalty killed. 6:10 left.
Nicholls going off for HFB. 5 mins left.
Gary Melrose is complimenting this Cornell team more than I can stomach.
Scali is having a fantastic game.
UNH timeout with 4:16 left.
Empty net for UNH...6x4 pp.

I wonder which NHL team he would have used to compare the Cornell team that showed up in Florida. His Red Wings comment earlier amused me.
Penalty killed...net still empty for UNH. 2:30 left.
Scali nets the ENG, and boy does he ever deserve it.
5-2.

I think part of the problem is that Cornell very rarely gets complimented on national television.
5-2 final. Nice game Red. We're still over-rated, however.
5-2 final...great game. Scali gets my unofficial #1 star of the game.

Over-rated based on the 4th ranking they showed us with today, but I don't think there has been an update to those since mid-December. Any idea when new ones come out?
As poorly as we played in Florida, we played well today. Even with UNH coming off a long break, they still had the home ice advantage and the Olympic size rink, and a hot goaltender. The oft-criticized B. Nash played a solid game, and this was the best cycling in the offensive zone I've seen us have all year, especially that one shift with Scali's line in the third period. This was the Cornell team we've all been waiting to see. Let's hope we can keep it up.

Maybe tomorrow, I was under the impression that it was updated by Mondays, but maybe not this Monday thanks to the break.

Somewhere between 10-15 would seem reasonable. 0-3 against the top-9; 0-0 against 10-15; 1-0-1 against 16-20; 1-0 against other teams receiving votes.
Great to see the guys get a big win.
Quote from: sah67Are these silver jerseys new for UNH at home, or have they used them in previous seasons?
They're UNH's "third" unis. Thankfully, Cornell hasn't stooped to this gimmick.

Would have to have been the Rangers ::yark::
