Title: Cornell team of the decade
Post by: billhoward on December 30, 2009, 04:00:08 PM
What was the best Cornell team this decade? I'm thinking single year but I suppose it could be a two-, three-, or four-year era.

Two obvious teams that come to mind:

Lacrosse 2009 (or the Max Seibald-era teams of 2006-2009)

Hockey 2002-2003

Yeah, two minutes away from immortality; two minutes that will forever live in infamy.

Two minutes? 10 seconds. And now I'm cringing again.

I'm sure there's a dominant polo team out there thinking, "how soon they forget." ;-)

Not one many people know about, but the lightweight crew team has been tremendously successful in the last half of the decade with multiple national titles and two runner-up placings at the Henley Royal Regatta in England. (EARC's are equivalent of regional and IRA's are national since rowing does not have NCAA tournament)

From the Cornell Rowing History site: http://cornellbigred.com/sports/2009/7/8/MROW_0708091257.aspx?id=275

"The program had another undefeated national championship season in 1992, and in both 2006 and 2008 the team won both the EARC championship (the eighth and ninth in the program's history) and the IRA national championship. The 2007 team also won the IRA national title, with both squads finishing as the runner-up at the Henley Royal Regatta in the Temple Challenge Cup."
