Title: Cornell vs. Colorado College Pregame (NOT a game thread)
Post by: Beeeej on December 29, 2009, 11:27:54 AM
It looks like you can listen to tonight's game for free via Colorado College:

http://www.cctigers.com/sports/2008/6/6/MHOCK_0606084754.aspx?tab=radionetwork

For tomorrow, Maine and Princeton are already covered on the now-a-year-out-of-date "Free Net Audio" link to your right.

I might be remembering incorrectly, but I believe last year the cost was a few dollars more per game than the typical $7 or $8 for the regular season games.

How's the quality?  Worth the cost if it's around $10?

The quality is decent: it looks like Redcast from past years, meaning that it's unwatchable full-screen because of the MPEG artifacts, but it is smooth and the audio is excellent.

What I love is how their website asserts that you need Windows and IE to watch, and refuses to let you in if you're using the wrong OS or browser: in reality, you don't need to be running that crap.  If you're using Linux and Firefox, make sure you have the user agent switcher extension, switch it to IE on b2tv's site, and then when you click on the link to watch the video choose some decent video player (I'm using mplayer) to view the stream.

Maine leading Princeton 3-1 after 1

edit: Now 4-1 early 2nd

edit: And quickly it's tied 4-4.  Three power play goals during a five minute major.

Princeton ties it up on a 5 minute major to Maine. Glad they made productive use of that time. I'm just following along from the uscho game thread.

5-4 Maine after 2

Now 6-4 Maine, with about 15 minutes to play in the third.

Others may have realized this, but if you're planning on paying the $10 to watch the Cornell game at 7:30, that $10 also covers the Maine vs. Princeton game. (I only discovered this a few minutes ago myself.)

So Maine has a guy named Swallow and a guy named House. Where is "Glass" when we need him? Are we sure this is Maine and not the old Dartmouth team?

A win in 5-minute OT is a win for season W-L-T records. Else it's a tie in the record books and a shootout determines who advances.

Game ends in a 6-6 tie. Now the shootout to determine who plays in the championship game tomorrow.

Shootout 5 shots each

Princeton Score / Miss  / Miss / Score / Miss (post)

Maine Score / Score / Miss / Miss / Score

Maine wins shootout 3-2 and advances

Princeton WPRB announcer sounds not at all disappointed ("nothing to be ashamed of" he says) and signs off within 30 seconds. Make Hobey proud, indeed.

Maine wins the shootout 3-2 on the last shot.

Maine wins. Yaay.

If Princeton were able to beat Maine in regulation, I'd be okay with that from a PWR perspective.  Since it went into the books as a tie at the end of OT, I'm glad Cornell has a chance to face the stronger Maine tomorrow, if they manage to beat CC tonight.

Good call. Want to see the Ivy league and ECAC do well. But our PWR ratings come first. Now I wish Maine won in regulation.

I saw it the other way (glass half empty?).  If Cornell lost tonight at least they could play Maine in the consolation and get some PWR help.  Beating CC would be reward enough for me and I'd settle for playing Princeton again.  Let's just win both.

I also discovered that if you click on the "reconnect" link in the confirmation email that they send you, then you can re-open the feed in an external viewer.  Seems that it's only the credit card transaction itself that has to be done through IE.

Is anyone having trouble logging into redcast or is there a send password link...maybe I don't know it after all

I've got a blue screen with the B2 logo at the moment.

EDIT: Nevermind, it's back, and I also didn't realize the first game ran late.

Wondering the same about sound. Maybe ten bucks was a choice or audio or video. Hard to believe, people in Europe use the Web for real TV all the time with very few hassles.

Suppose we could call on the Cornell audiocast if you don't mind the goal coming 5 seconds before or after - oh, wait, there it is. Or at least the announcers wondering where the sound is. ... the Colorado College audiocast being simulcast?
