just figured i would bump this up
i assume it isnt possible to get tix thru the cornell ticket office yet right? ::help::
It should be obvious that the ticket office will not sell tickets to an event that we aren't guaranteed of making. The ECAC only sends tickets to the four (feels good to say that) participating schools after they qualify. To do otherwise would be presumptuous, and a slap in the face to the QF opponent.

Didn't the Yankees start selling playoff tickets before they'd clinched just last year? :-P
rich
i knew that and was speaking with tongue in cheek :-)
ps
no woofing intended, ye hockey gods ::worry::
Sorry jy3. I was very groggy.
[Q]Didn't the Yankees start selling playoff tickets before they'd clinched just last year? [/Q]
Whee. More Yankee bashing.
Doing a search of news releases at mlb.com shows that the Cardinals and Braves both started selling playoff tickets a week before the Yankees did, and tickets in New York went on sale the same weekend as the Diamondbacks and Giants. I remember that the Yanks only started selling them after they had clinched at least the Wild Card. Given the margins of the Arizona and SF races, I'm not so sure those 2 teams had clinched at that point. The Diamondbacks clinched a playoff spot on Sept. 25, and were selling tickets on Sept. 20. The Giants didn't clinch a playoff spot until the next-to-last day of the season, Sept. 28. But let's all assume it was the Yankees, instead.
Actually, the Yanks have already clinched for 2003.

...and Boston still sucks ::rock::
Ah, relax, I'm just kidding. I did definitely hear that the Yankees had done that (wasn't just assuming), but didn't hear that the other teams had done so. ::screwy::
In that case, it was presumptuous of the D-Backs, Cards, and Braves as well. Fuckin' Braves. :-(
(D'oh! Double post deleted.)

A little touchy, aren't you? It is true that the Yankees started selling playoff tickets before they had clinched, so I dont know why it struck a nerve with you.
They (and the other teams) have to get permission from the league, they can't do it without authorization. And it isn't hubris, exactly. It is a way of bleeding money out of the fans, since the team gets more interest if they get the money early - and they don't give it back if the team nosedives and misses the playoffs; only the cost of the tickets is refunded.

Oh, that's mainly because I do it a lot. ::nut::
At the risk of this thread collapsing into an off-topic discussion of everything that is wrong with baseball...
[Q]A little touchy, aren't you?[/Q]
Short answer: Not really...just giving some grief to Josh. :-)
Long answer: I'm aware of a tiring trend in the media to label anything and everything the Yankees do as being the only evil in the world with a "there they go again" attitude, when there are actions made by other franchises that are guilty of exploiting the poor financial model of baseball. It's a double standard that exists, and the Yankees are always the easy target.
But now that cartoony 1980s George has returned, I don't really care if he gets taken down. Steinbrenner sucks.
Please...back to hockey?
I've got no problem with Yankee bashing when appropriate...
however, pretty much all team in major sports sell post-season tickets before anything is set in stone. In baseball it happens all the time...I recall last year the Islanders were selling tickets for 4 first-round home games, as it was unclear whether they would be getting hte #5 seed or higher. And a slew of teams in the wild card/division races in baseball last year were selling Divisional Series tickets towards the end of the regular season.
It's common practice.
OK, OK, fine, I retract my Yankee bashing. ::yark::
Wait, no, what I meant to say was, I retract THIS PARTICULAR INSTANCE of Yankee bashing. :-D
