A pair of teams that matched up very competitively last season meet in another important conference game.
Patrick Kennedy and Sean Whitney are back in the lineup after missing the Brown game. Roeszler and Nicholls are out. Schafer is sticking with the 4th line that came together for the Brown game out of necessity but showed chemistry.

Keep the updates coming for those of us trying to follow both basketball and hockey tonight.
Gallagher puts in a rebound goal off of a surprising Greening shot from the left circle on their first shift of the game. LGR!!!

Must be nice to be able to justify going traveling to Cornell hockey games as a work expense.
cornellbigred.com, live stats and video all not working at all - at least on the West Coast...
I'm watching hockey, wrestling, b-ball.
R. Nash called for holding the stick. Princeton PP.
Quote from: Al DeFlorioI'm watching hockey, wrestling, b-ball.
You are nuts Al! :-D ::banana::
Now can you add in chatting?
Nice 2 on 1 chance for Cornell as Nash comes out of the box, but no finish.
Gallagher! Takes a Princeton turnover and scores.
Totally dead here online. What's the basketball score?
Now all three webcasts are frozen.
BB score: Seton Hall 24, Cornell 17, 6:30 left in first half
hockey video just died

Basketball - Seton Hall 28, Cornell 20
All webcasts have died. Typical.
IJ's blog is probably better for live action. If you want the Princeton stats, which have not been affected by Cornell's difficulities:
http://livestats.internetconsult.com/cornell/mhockey/index.htm
video dead here too. www.cornellbigred.com not responding at all for while to boot...
BB update: Seton Hall 40, Cornell 35 at halftime.
A nice run by Cornell in the last two minutes to bring it back to a 2-point game, only to see a 3-pointer by Seton Hall in the last few seconds.
Just got my video back.
D'Agostino! 3-0 Cornell. Gallagher with an assist for his 3rd point.
Everything frozen again
Oh no! Video is crapped out.
Grrr.

What a difference in this generation!
I wonder if the servers are overburdened right now with all the sports events going on or what the problem is exactly.
Scali! Gets his own rebound and scores. 4-0
QuoteI wonder if the servers are overburdened right now with all the sports events going on or what the problem is exactly.
That's a decent thought -- what with three pretty big events all going on at the same time.
Edit: Maybe we can blame Al for triple-dipping.
It also doesn't help that SNY is somehow showing an infomercial instead of the basketball game.
What an effort from Joe Scali. Zane Kalemba can't feel too great about that one.
hard to think 100 viewers at such a low bandwidth would cause server issues..

Never could get the third one to run. One of 'em was always down. Much of the time all three were (and are) down.

They are broadcasting video for hockey, wrestling, and basketball all at the same time. I imagine they are actually getting a lot of traffic tonight, but I also imagine the problem is between Cornell and Sidearm's servers somewhere.
Cornell now on the PP (thank you IJLB). Video, please come back!!!
Quotehard to think 100 viewers at such a low bandwidth would cause server issues..
I suspect the number is higher. Lots of parents, program alums, etc. probably like to watch the wrestling matches.
Who would have thought that Scali would have more goals than Riley at any point in this season?
yeah but this company does the sports for dozens of teams SU included.
Basketball down 56-40 12:40 left
Well if they do the sports for dozens of teams then they definitely should have the cash to do this. The students cell phones take better quality video, a transistor radio has better audio quality, and the interface looks like it was created by a retarded failure of a graphic designer. It is simply outrageous that they can charge for this. It's no wonder the technology is called sidearm, apparently they need an extra one because both thumbs and arms are already jammed way up their butts. Brainless incompetents, the lot of them.

Right on. What are the odds Jeremy Hartigan will post an apology on cornellbigred.com for the abysmal Redcast service level tonight?

Slim to none, and slim just left? ::help:: ::cuss::
the schools are losing money on this deal, from what i have heard we are lucky there is any video at all.
say 100 people watch hockey and pay $7.. is that enough to cover the cost of producing the game, sending someone(1-3?) to the game say 4-5 hrs of time and equipment costs on top of the other costs of bandwidth, CU says it costs them money for the video feed so somehow they are paying for something..
on the other hand its the same cost for gymnastics which might have 10 people watching..
Princeton gets 1. 4-1... goal under review. Goal stands.
The part of it that is extremely disturbing to me is that (at least on my machine) I'm seeing the same amount of uptime (like 1-2 minutes) and then the same amount of downtime (7-10 mins.) What this indicates is that it's almost as if someone is sitting there rebooting a single computer, it works for a couple minutes until it "melts," and it repeats over and over.
It reeks of poor design, and if we're lucky they will fix it for tomorrow night but I would place a very strong bet they are incapable of fixing it for the third period tonight, unless they do something crazy like cripple one sport to give bandwidth to another. Of course, someone would have to be watching 2 or 3 sports at a time to notice this, and who does that, really ::whistle::
if course the problem could also be related to the same thing that took down several major network apps on campus today as well as the phone system..
4-2, get it together boys.

Well, if that's true, and I have no idea whether it is or isn't, then why aren't we just doing it in house? I don't know, make it an engineering school project and do it right. Instead, Athletics subcontracts out the business to a shoddy operation that can't handle the heat. Hrrrumph.
Basketball down 75-64 w/ 2:30 to go.

Well ICS did blame it on Cornell and its network and servers.
Has anyone managed to get it back up, my internet sucks so I never know if its me or them
No, it has been down most of the 3rd period still.Riley Nash potted a PPG.
Riley Nash finally gets his goal on a PP one timer in the left circle from Sean Whitney.
Webcast is, at long last, back.
OK Video! Please last through the end of the game.

Sorry but this is W-R-O-N-G, and I can prove it. We used to have a FREE video feed. Other schools still do it for free. A webcam, a laptop, and a single ethernet connection are perfectly capable of doing the job.
If it is not profitable to send out a three person camera crew then DON'T DO IT. They are charging people money, being negligent, and then whining "actually, we're losing money." Then they are a failure of a business, someone put a stake through these shysters and let the engineering students do it for free.
Food for thought: if they are "losing money" then how did they redesign their entire site in Flash over the past year? Couldn't they have used that money to buy better servers? Or an effing clue?
5-2 final...Kalemba takes a whack at Mike Devin at the buzzer.

We can't handle one sport, but you get FREE access to every sport, none of which consistently work? Are they serious???

I shot off an email to Jeremy Hartigan (director of athletic communications). Hearing from more people that were upset probably wouldn't hurt. jh295@cornell.edu

Done.
It was very frustrating. I can't imagine how ticked off I would be if I was trying to watch all 3 events.
I got a very long response from Jeremy Hartigan that he wrote at 12:46 AM. I'm not going to copy the whole thing, but basically the problems seemed to stem from the Time Warner TV broadcast of the basketball game. I guess this TV broadcast was essentially eating up all the bandwidth coming out of athletics and knocked out everything including the media wireless in Newman. (I don't really understand this as I thought most TV broadcasts were done by sattelite linkups, not over the internet) He was apologetic and upset that this happened on such an important sports night, and says they are working to make sure it doesn't happen again. Then he goes on to explain that he thinks we have one of the best services overall compared to other schools (and say that Cornell is losing money on it).
QuoteI guess this TV broadcast was essentially eating up all the bandwidth coming out of athletics and knocked out everything including the media wireless in Newman.
This would make sense, given that SportsNet New York didn't show the basketball game as they advertised. When I tuned in I saw a five-second still of Louis Dale, followed by a black screen, followed by an infomercial.

I just received a partial refund ($5.00 on my hockey season pass, which is more than the prorated cost) for the issues during the Princeton. It appears they are at least trying to do something.
