Cornell's regular season opener against CHA foe Niagara should provide a good measure of where our team stands at this point, as the perennially respectable Purple Eagles already have 4 games under their belts, all against quality opponents.
It will be interesting to see how the veteran firepower is spread throughout the lines tonight, and also who gets the start in goal (I'm expecting Scrivens will, does anyone have this info yet?).
The Ithaca Journal has a live blog (http://www.theithacajournal.com/article/20091030/NEWS01/91030031/Men+s+college+hockey++Niagara-Cornell+live+blog) going for the game.
CU lines report:
Miller - R. Nash - Kennedy
Greening - Gallagher - J. Devin
Esposito - Roeszler - Jillson
Scali - Collins - Axell
B. Nash - Whitney
D'Agostino - Krueger
Ross - M. Devin
Scrivens
LGR!
IJ/LB reporting Arthur Mintz will be missing in the scoring booth for the first time since 2/8/1991. Cornell senior and Newman Arena PA man Chris Lloyd takes the mic.

1 13:07 Cor PP Greening (R. Nash, Whitney)

2 16:58 Nia PP (5x3) Mironov (Moran, Gotto)
OT 3:18 Cor J. Devin (Greening, D'Agostino)
I assume Scrivens will start. I haven't heard anything to imply otherwise.
Look out for the two freshmen d-men, Birch and D'Agastino. Both looked older than their age last weekend and Birch just looks like he wants to hit someone. Another freshman to watch is Esposito - he really can fly, a little out of control still, but FLIES.
Should be a good test tonight. Niagara has lost 3 one goal games to good opponents thus far this year.
OK time to leave for the game!
If I heard coach right in the pregame, Birch is sitting tonight.
Princeton beat Brown 1-0 on an overtime pp this afternoon. Kalemba with 31 saves.
For those folks who had problems in paying for the new Redcast subscription with their credit cards, did you finally have any success? What was the work around?
Yes, Scrivens in net.
Ouch. 1-0 Niagara.
First Lynah review...
So far, this new Lynah interface has not brought good fortune to our team.. :( I was expecting a shutout victory tonight.
Goal stands.
Cornell penalty on Whitney.
Even strength.
Penalty on Riley Nash
Niagara in the box. 4 x 4 for a minute.
Yeah! What a pass from Riley to Greening.
Greening!!!
Gorgeous goal.
Wow, a power play goal.
With D'Agostino we're essentially skating 4-1-1. ::popcorn::
Niagara penalty with 11 seconds left in the first.
End of 1, tied at 1.
Quote from: Jeff Hopkins '82Niagara penalty with 11 seconds left in the first.
Completely forced by Cornell driving the net. The Red played the last 8 minutes on fire.
After 1 period: Yale 5 Ontario Institute of Technology 0.
Another Niagara penalty, 48 seconds of 5 x 3.
Goal!!!! 5 on 4.
Good reflex save by Scrivens there.
Another big save by Scrivens.
as of this minute, redcast still shows the score as 1-1, which is wrong.
Union and RPI tied at 2,::snore:: 13 min left in 2nd period.::snore::
Another red power play. 12:20 in the 2nd.
Even strength.
Very healthy looking powerplay for both units.

I'll say.
Niagara to the powerplay. Scali in the box.
PK on the PK.
Kennedy forechecking three Niagara players, and draws a penalty!
Niagara broadcast dropped off.
OK, it's back.
Niagara returns to full strength...
Oh God. Macho man.
Purple Eagles not protecting Avramenko at all -- we're living in the crease.
Cornell penalty. Ross for unsportsmanlike.
Yale now up 7-0 in the second; I guess the Rhodesian Ridgebacks aren't very good.
Another penalty to the Red. Brendan Nash for a trip.
Purple Eagle 0-for-18 PP unit just scored. 2-2
Niagara goal. 2-2.
Too bad its not located in Ohio as it would no doubt be dubbed
The Ontario Institute of Technology
TOIOT.
Good god, that whole minute or so was terrible for college hockey: Cornell has 5 men on in a PK situation and none of the 4 (!!!!) refs notice; then, a failed clear attempt turns into a point-blank shot on Scrivens, shades of Jason Dailey. Yikes.

Idaho Institute of Technology would be better.
Matching minors with 21 seconds left.

But that's not a palindrome !?! ::dribble::
I only saw the 2nd period, but pretty good effort so far. The Niagara goalie has really kept them in the game, as we had plenty of chances to go up 3-1 before they tied it up. While the Red has the edge in play, Niagara seems quite a bit better than last year, especially on the offensive end.
The Ipod/Iphone ESPN Scorecenter app still has us listed 1-1 at the end of the first, but in a bizarre report they have Merrimack 3, BC 4 at the HALF.
Sure it is. Don't forget the first (unstated) T. THE Idaho Instiute...
Well they ESPN app is now up to date.
The list us 2-2
and
Vermont 1, Maine2
Michigan 4, LSS 0
ALL AT HALFTIME!!!

Jack Parker must be in attendance.

Edit: My bad, it was 4x4.
RPI beats Union 4-3 in OT.
Free hockey.
Cornell with a lot of pressure, but unable to put one home in the final minute.
Are there shootouts this year?
Nice.
OMG JOE DEVIN!!!
GOAL!!! J. Devin!
Cornell's first shot on goal in the OT, according to livestats.

In the ccha only I believe.
Apparently the Niagara broadcast has a long delay. The game is still tied up here. I wonder what will happen. ::burnout::

I got it right when Oat did.
Great to have J. Devin back; he has a knack for putting the puck in the net. And oh, by the way, Greening is a beast.
The freshmen were ok. They didn't make too many mistakes, but also didn't score any points tonight.

D'Agostino got an assist on the last goal.
Edit: they changed it to Riley. Never mind...

Is he playing out of position, or is he just contributing to the offense while playing good defense?

Interesting quote, then, in today's
Ithaca Journal:
"It was a good play by Nick (D'Agostino) to get the puck up to me," Greening said. "(Devin) was yelling and I just gave a good pass and he did the rest."Box score now shows Nick. Frosh comes through.

Worth noting that in an early four-on-four situation, Schafer had both Esposito and D'Agostino on the ice.

RedCast archive clearly shows #6 making the pass to Greening. D'Agostino and Krueger were on the ice at defense.
Saturday October 31 - it's halloween.
Quinnipiac had 63 shots on goal. Robert Morris had 33 shots on goal. Guess who won!
RPI had 40 shots on goal. Army had 16. Guess who won!
Umass had 47 shots on goal. Providence had 17. Guess who won!
The scoring on the second Cornell goal has been changed to Kennedy (Gallagher, R. Nash).
Thanks, I can start trusting my eyes again.... I was pretty sure Kennedy had scored that goal.
