Title: Charity Auction for Pair of Princeton @ Cornell Tickets and Pair of Quinnipiac @ Cornell Tickets (Current Winning Bids: Princeton $42, Quinnipiac $42)
Post by: Beeeej on October 16, 2009, 10:51:35 AM
Folks, with five weeks remaining until my third crack at El Tour de Tucson (a 109-mile bike ride through the desert around Tucson, Arizona), which will force me to miss the men's hockey home games against Princeton and Quinnipiac, I am officially placing my pair of tickets for each game on the auction block, and they will go to the highest bidders. Every dime of the winning bids will go to sponsoring my El Tour de Tucson ride to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (http://pages.teamintraining.org/nyc/tucson09/janbinder).

(Yes, I know we discourage markups, and yes, I know this is the people in charge making an exception for themselves. But making an exception we are, and the Cornell Ticket Office has even signed off.)

The Details:

The games are Princeton @ Cornell, Friday, November 20, and Quinnipiac @ Cornell, Saturday, November 21, both at 7pm at Cornell's Lynah Rink. The tickets are Section C, Row 9, Seats 3 and 4. They are outstanding seats near center ice on the Cornell side. I am donating the tickets to this auction; in other words, I will not recover my cost.

The bidding starts immediately (October 16), and the minimum bid for each game is $42 (face value). Bids should be sent to me by e-mail at beeeejesq@gmail.com, and should specify which game the bidder wants (or both, if that's the case). I will edit this post once a day (or each time there's a new leading bid, whichever is less often) to reflect the current leading bids - but not the identity of the leading bidders. In case of a tie, I will notify bidders privately who was first. Bids must increase in increments of at least $1.

As of November 9, 2009, the current winning bids are:  Princeton $42, Quinnipiac $42

Bidding will end promptly at 12 noon on Sunday, November 15. For the 48 hours leading up to the end of bidding, I will edit this post every time there is a new leading bid. I will notify the winning bidders immediately by e-mail (and by phone if they included a phone number in their bid e-mails). The winning bidders will then have until 8pm on Monday, November 16 to make credit card donations in the full amount of their winning bids to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society via my El Tour de Tucson fundraising page (http://pages.teamintraining.org/nyc/tucson09/janbinder) and notify me by e-mail at beeeejesq@gmail.com of a shipping address for the tickets. I will send the tickets by overnight mail at my expense on Tuesday, November 17 (the games are Friday, November 20 and Saturday, November 21). (If the winning bidders need to make their donations by check rather than credit card, we will work out the details individually.)

Donations to sponsor my El Tour de Tucson ride and benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (http://pages.teamintraining.org/nyc/tucson09/janbinder) are welcome apart from the bidding, but only a donation from the people I identify as the winning bidders, in the full amount of their winning bids, will be considered payment for the tickets.

All questions should be directed to me by e-mail at beeeejesq@gmail.com.

Thank you everyone for supporting Cornell Men's Hockey and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society!

Note: Face value for each pair of tickets is $42. Because this is for charity, the winning bidders will be able to take tax deductions, but it will be for whatever they pay for each pair of tickets above $42; e.g., if you pay $100 for one of the pairs, tax law likely dictates that you can only take a $58 tax deduction, not a $100 tax deduction, notwithstanding what the receipt from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will say. Consult your own accountant or attorney to be sure.
