Title: Most Cornellians in the NHL simultaneously (+ Gary)
Post by: billhoward on October 08, 2009, 08:55:28 AM
What is the most Cornellians in the NHL at one time? (Not counting Gary Bettman.) A 2003 thread (below) hopes for four. http://cornellbigred.com/news/2007/9/14/mih_nhlcamps.aspx this fall talked of 10 being in NHL training camps.
[q]How long does everyone think it will take for both Murray and LeNeveu playing full-time in the NHL? [/q]
Good question.  My guess would be:
+ Murray, 1 year
+ LeNeveu,  3 years
Maybe we get four Cornellians playing regularly in the NHL simultaneously for the first time ever.
We talked about this last year, but it was # of Cornellians playing in the NHL in a season, not simultaneously:

Iggulden ended up playing 11 games for the NYI, so that was 7.

As for this year, we could easily see five in the NHL at the same time. Murray and Bitz seem to have cemented spots in the lineup, O'Byrne had a great training camp and was certainly in Montreal's top 6 before he went out with a lower body injury. Assuming he doesn't have setbacks as he rehabs the injury, he'll be back in the NHL. Moulson seems to be doing well on the Islanders' top line, and then Sawada or Vesce could get called up for a couple of games.

Coincidentally, it was just posted on USCHO that Clarkson currently has the following active players in the NHL: Todd Marchant , Craig Conroy, Chris Clark, Todd White, Erik Cole, Willie Mitchell, Kent Huskins, Randy Jones, for 8.  Over the last 10 years, I'd still take our record over theirs.  ::banana::

Thanks. Number playing over the course of the season is probably a better indicator because someone could be injured and off the active roster.

is in the AHL right now.  Too much salary for the Flyers to keep him on their NHL roster.

Does the NHL system allow you to warehouse players in the AHL without any salary cap impact?

You basically have to waive them.  If they clear waivers, then you can demote them.  And that's what they did with Jones and his 2.5 million per year.

Although with how their defense played last night, they might need him back
