Getting ready for the grudge match. Schafer wasn't happy with what he called inconsistency in the calls against Hornby and against the guy who plastered Paolini, but he had no prlblem in general with the game -- we played well enough to win, but Colgate played even better enough...
Greg, you've got the site backwards; you should change the subject.
Jeez, John -- I couldn't have had that up for 3 seconds before I noticed and changed it. Do you wait to pounce? :-D
Just good timing, I guess. :-D
LeNeveu v Silverthorne, Part Deux. Game on.

Back to even strength. Great kill by Cornell.

Cornell kills off pp; Colgate now 0x4

Cornell returns to full strength, and "Macho Man" still sucks.
Maybe if Newy retires this year and moves to Ithaca, the Big Red can hire him as offensive coordinator.
Period ends with the 2 goal lead intact.
Shots through 2nd favored Cornell 22-7.
Cornell pp #3
Cornell now 0x3 and on a 1x19 pp stretch
Colgate pp #6
Nice to hear the band play "fight, maim, kill"
Colgate now 0x6
Cornell pp #4
PEGORARO!
Goals seem just too hard to come by.
Late Colgate goal. Too bad.
These Colgate broadcasters are making me sick!
I forgot to mention from the game on Thursday that the pep band played Macho Man at Colgate--and 75% of the Cornell fans there did the St. Lawrence guy dance. Can we stop playing the song? Can we just play it when we face St. Lawrence. It is embarrassing.
Favorite call of the night:
Hornby has a few great, clean hits - ref rightfully does nothing... Hornby skates over to the bench to change just as the whistle blows and he gets some gloves in his face by a Colgate player who skates right on by. Horny has no time to react and does nothing. Hornby goes to the box... geez... there's such a thing as a rep, but generally don't you have to move your hands or feet to get a penalty?!?!?
Well, actually you can get a penalty for moving your mouth too. This ref called way too many penalties on clean hits. I wonder if he's only done women's hockey games (no checking). And just didn't understand the physical side of the men's game. ::nut::
[q]Well, actually you can get a penalty for moving your mouth too.[/q]
Which Hornby did late in the 3rd ::laugh::
But when he was put in the box with Tataryn in the 2nd period, that was ridiculous. 2 minutes for firing up the team? 2 minutes for good hitting? 2 minutes for being elbowed in the face after the whistle?
I think it was the last one. There was absolutely no penalty on Horby until after he got hit, the ref musta missed it and just figured something happening involving Hornby, so it must be his fault. Two minutes for allowing himself to be hit in the face.
Yeah, I saw two brand-spanking new penalties last night:
+ 2 minutes for being punched in the face - Greg got one of those.
+ 2 minutes for skating down the ice while being harassed by another player - again Greg got one of those.
I thought it would be a while before we would see worse than Alex Dell. . .who'da thunk we'd get someone far worse the very next game. ::uhoh::
I've been really disappointed in the quality of ECAC reffing lately. I know I'm not an unbiased observer, but I try to be fair (I find myself agreeing with the ref sometimes when the crowd around me at Lynah is pissed off - and yes, the Colgate OT goal was a goal ;-) ) and lately I've just seen a lot of downright S|-|!77y calls (does using 'leet' avoid making it a swear? :-) ).
Both Colgate games, the BU fiasco, etc. I'm sure it's hard to find good refs and I know it's a hard job, but come on guys.
Many of the calls last night were indeed terrible, but it's hard to be too upset since we won. I'd just like to point out that the worst thing I saw/heard last night was the obnoxious section B fan who was yelling obnxiously during the appropriate moment of silence honoring the victims of the Shuttle Columbia. Of course, he finally realized what was happening and shut up, but I was sort of disgusted by the behavior.
A couple other comments -
I love how Hornby has become a real fan favorite this year; as the players skate off the ice, the fans seem to be split between chanting "Horn-by" and "Le-ne-veu."
The Hynes-Paolini-McRae line looks really great. And I loved Hynes' post-game comment: "I hit him in the head. Where else am I gonna hit him? But you just have to stay more disciplined I guess."
And I can't wait until Friday.
Okay, back to watching the NHL All-Star game now :-) ...

The guys I sit with in D and I have grown such a fondness for Greg. We started the game betting the over/under on how many shifts until Hornby got sent to the box. (The O/U was 4 and I believe the U won on 3) But the turning point was the shift where he must have laid 5 good hits in a row. That was something out of a video game or the WWE. Good business, not bad business. We were heartbroken on the phantom calls on him, blaming the obvious suspect. I guess it was like looking for the fat kid when someone farts. Either way we're probably bringing signs this week in support. Can't wait for the headline, "Hornby gives Dominick moore than he can handle"
Hornby is definitely my favorite player also. This because of the way he played in last year's ECAC final (Blah!). In overtime, every team member looked tired and slow. And there was Hornby - all over the place, slamming on everyone. He was a cannon!
In the end the outcome was the same, but Hornby was single-handedly responsible for giving us a couple of extra minutes.
