Fabulous deal for Bitz!!  Certainly says something about playing in college for four years and then making it to the NHL!!!  And he's got a degree to boot!!!  Not bad!!

I was watching NESN a couple of nights ago, and they had Chiarelli (GM)on.  Bitz was the very first signing this year, and Chiarelli spoke very highly of Bitz's success in stepping right in.  He mentioned how hard Bitz worked and how good of a job he did winning pucks along the boards.

It was clear that, through this signing and a couple of others, the Bruins are trying to keep the young core players on the team.

David LeNeveu is a free agent...

People on the hockeysfuture islanders board are pretty pleased with the signing, and feel like Moulson has a real shot to make the big club, potentially replacing Jeff Tambellini.

I lot of Islanders fans have run out of patience with Tambellini and would be very happy to have any forward take his roster spot,

Mike Iggulden is an unrestricted free agent.  I have seen speculation that he will play next year in Europe.

Nice article on Riley. (http://oilers.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&page=NewsPage&articleid=422645)

"We don't want to turn him pro when he's not ready to turn pro," [Asst. GM] Prendergast emphasizes. "We'll have our prospect camp in July and we'll have a pretty good idea of where he is at that point. If we feel he's getting stronger, that's great and we'll think about it at the end of next hockey season, and if not, then we'll wait the four years."

Um, so is that the end of next season? As in spring 2010?

Sounds to me like if it's up to Kevin Prendergast, Riley will be back for his junior year.

Oops, already been posted. pfibiger gets the credit for this article. . .

It seems the oilers just change the date on old articles and repost them.

He's hardly unique.  Certainly very talented and IMO should be lauded for stcking with two sports and performing at a high level.  These days there's too much pressure for kids to pick one sport and specialize early.

That said, the GCL is the very bottom of the professional baseball ladder.  At his age, playing against 18 and 19 year olds, he needs to dominate at that level to have a chance of moving up in the Yankees system.

Quote"Some people look at it like that," Nash said. "I'm just looking at it one year at time. To me hockey is the most important, but school is too; I want to get an education and a degree. But if it doesn't work out with hockey, I think I can always go back and finish my degree, I don't think it's that big of a deal."

Speak of the devil.  Milo has been bumped up to the NY-Penn league with the Staten Island Yankees.  Definitely a level that sees more college players.  I'm certainly hoping to make it out to catch a game.  http://www.nomaas.org/draft/?p=242

QuoteReign coach Karl Taylor is looking forward to seeing Mugford in the orange and blue.

Taylor said the left-winger will fit in well with the team, being such a physical player.

"I am really excited," Taylor said.
