Title: Slightly OT, Brazil 3 - USA 2
Post by: Swampy on June 28, 2009, 09:06:01 PM
Ouch!

USA 2, Brazil 3 (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/06/28/AR2009062802498.html)

To blow a 2-goal lead. Guess we know about that.

Cornell 9, Syracuse 10 (http://www.news.cornell.edu/stories/May09/NCAAlax.html)

FWIW, after the game the pundits were talking about what big step forward this is for U.S. Soccer. It is, but Cornell is much closer to the mountaintop in lacrosse. I predict if Tambroni stays, with time the NC will come before the US wins the World Cup.

And both followed a major, unexpected upset in the semifinals.

Extend the comparison to the NCAA Hockey tournament as well:  In all three, the Final game featured a feel-good underdog facing a name-brand, successful power.  Each underdog worked hard and did everything right to put them in a position to win, only to lose in heart-stomping fashion.

At least the US didn't send this one to OT.

4-2, if not for a terrible no-call. Brazil in GAME ON mode was a sight to behold. I don't think the comparison to Cornell or Miami is apt; there was no last second collapse by the US team. Brazil spent the entire second half making people wonder if the first half was a hallucination.

Thank you for taking two depressing losses and combining them so they reinforce each other to create a debilitating blackhole of despair.

A Joke stolen from Laxpower:

A blonde is watching the news with her husband when the newscaster says:

"Two Brazilian men die in a skydiving accident."

The blonde starts crying to her husband, sobbing "That's horrible! So many men dying that way!"

Confused, he says, "Yes dear, it is sad, but they were skydiving, and there is always that risk involved."

After a few minutes, the blonde, still sobbing, says;

"How many is a Brazilian?"
