According to Brian Sullivan of USCHO (http://www.uscho.com/news/college-hockey/id,16577/ThisWeekinECACHockeyFeb52009.html), all twelve ECAC teams will be wearing special pink and black uniforms for their respective weekends of home games in late February, to be autographed and auctioned off to raise money to benefit the American Cancer Society. All jerseys start at $150.

It's a great cause, but seriously - Cornell in pink and black uniforms?! I have nightmares about things like this.

Skorton should up the ante by painting the locker rooms pink, too.

Ah, too bad it won't be February 14.::nut::
And I guess that would mean the seniors get to do their lap wearing them ::yark::
It's a great cause but a giant shame that it seems senior nights league wide will feature ugly one time uniforms instead of the sweaters and colors these guys wore for four years.
Agreed. Too bad they can't do something bizarre like let the seniors wear their "true" colors (but still sign/auction off their respective pink ones).
why couldn't they just switch to their normal uniforms for the final lap?
Do the teams have to wear them for both games that weekend? Couldn't they just wear them for the Friday night game, especially considering most teams do have a "Senior night" celebration at their last home game of the regular season.
The cause is great, however, the design....
What will they do for socks? Hopefully all black. However, the pink, black and red hockey pants....? My eyes are still out-of-sorts from the throwback unis worn by the Habs last Sunday.
Personally I think this is stupid. How much would I spend on a regular worn sweater vs. a pink and black one? Really now, am I going to go out of my way and wear this god-awful sweater to games. I think not. But just my opinion, you understand.
Edit:

Don't be afraid to bid, fellas: not only are these jerseys one-of-a-kind and game-worn, but they'll also exhibit your fashionable, sensitive side. Ladies, the apparel works for you too; the pink is a cute, classy touch, and the jersey itself demonstrates your incredibly desirable love of ECAC hockey.
Do I need to say anything more?

Pretty sure that's what mha did last year.
On the one hand, cool, pink uniforms! I like pink. I wear pink - helps that I'm a girl :) But on the other hand, this just seems entirely wrong, no matter how good a cause this is or how much I like pink
Hidden in this week's Off the Crossbar (http://www.theithacajournal.com/article/20090211/SPORTS/902110316) in the fine print is this:
"CORRECTION
In the bonus edition of Off the Crossbar in Saturday's edition, it was incorrectly reported that the Big Red men's team will wear league-mandated black and pink jerseys for its Senior Night game against Union on Feb. 21.
While ECAC Hockey's initial intent was for all home teams to wear the jerseys during the final two weekends of the season, Cornell has since been given the green light to wear its traditional white and red jerseys for the final home game of the regular season."
This should appease some of ELF's fashion police.

Repeat after me: They could be worse. You could be looking at a giant huggy bear.
Jerseys aren't cheap. Unless bidding takes off, the league would have probably been better off just giving the money to the cause.
I think the better approach would have been to just use the teams actual jersey designs with what appears to be a couple of additional patches on the shoulders (pink ribbon and something else) and auctioned those off. I would have worn that; no way are you getting me into these things.
I'm guessing the jerseys were donated or at the very least supplied very cheaply to the league in bulk, as every team is wearing the same blank. If each team had to order another set of jerseys, it would require each team to do more work and in all likelihood end up costing more.
Maybe the pink will cause a run on Pepto-Bismol
I am editing this because I wonder if the lack of advertising for products such as this means that the current generation of Cornellians might not know what I referred to.

A liquid formula with a wintergreen taste that relieves heartburn, indigestion, upset stomach, nausea, diarrhea and bizarre decisions made by national collegiate sports organizations.
Also, they're kinda flooding the market with these, no? I wonder how many teams besides Cornell quickly sell out all of their standard gameworns, let alone this Pepto-bumblebee stuff?
I get that part of the idea is to raise awareness, but I like with JasonN95's idea better than what they've done. Heck, you could even auction the patches off separately -- and the lower price-point would probably fly better in the current economy, too.
It's too bad Cheel's walls aren't Maalox green any more. Would have complemented the Pepto pink nicely.

How about Brioschi? Is that still known to the younger faithful? That product was long in the tooth in the 60's.

I agree. Any games televised with teams wearing these jerseys should be done so in black & white, as a service to the viewers.

How about if it also gives us an advantage:
http://bacweb.the-bac.edu/~michael.b.williams/baker-miller.html
We just have to make sure that we don't look at each other. That is probably easier to do than avoiding looking at the opposing team. Maybe we can even paint the wall that the opposing team shoots towards for two periods.

A bunch. And the "Pink Panther" theme used to be (buried) in the Pep Band folders, although I think I only played it once at an actual event in my 4 years in the '90s. I'm guessing it got removed during one of the subsequent folder clean-outs.

My eyes! My eyes!
Actually, I thought it looked worse in person. The pictures kind of faded the pink to a paler shade and (on my screen at least) the black is kind of browned out.
In person, the pink was a sharper, more pepto-bismol color. I thought the pink and black striped socks were particularly garish. Paired with the red shorts and gloves....ugh. It was tough to watch.
Shudder. I don't want to go through that again. At least every team has to do it.

Do we know what the pink uniform status is for next weekend? Will we see Yale in their version on Friday? How about Brown on Saturday, or are they also getting to opt out on Senior Night?
My sister goes to Clarkson. Without me even saying anything, the first thing she said about their game against Dartmouth Friday was how lovely the uniforms looked with the green and gold.

Does anyone know the sticks' flex and the curve on the blade? It just occurred to me that if nothing else, this could be a relatively cheap way to get some nice composite sticks.
Probably at a loss for the team, though -- so you'd have to come to grips with the fact that every time you take a slapshot, you're helping keep cancer strong.

Um, well, the pink and green make for nice preppy colors but that gold helmet stuck out.
I was trying to think if there was a team in the ECAC that had colors that would even go somewhat well with those jerseys.
Cornell - ick
SLU, RPI - same issue as Cornell
Brown - pink and brown are okay but brown and black not so good
Colgate, Union, Harvard - maroon and pink aren't so hot either
Yale - blue and pink...ick
Dartmouth - pink and green...maybe
Clarkson - again, pink and green maybe but those gold helmets stick out
Princeton - I can't imagine anything other than black would go with that orange
Q - what color are they?
So, the conclusion was that at least none of the teams look good in those jerseys.

Pink is just a terrible color for uniforms, especially when combined with other colors. The league meant well with this promotion but yeeeeeeaaaaaach.
The Flyers sell pink unis for the same cause. They are two shades of pink on a white background. They're tolerable. And they never forced the players to wear them on ice.
These, however, are just nauseating
Pink is just a terrible color for uniforms, especially when combined with other colors.
I think that pink's hideousness makes the promotion more effective. It stands out in a way that a more neutral color could not.

That's only a portion of the effect. Having a high visibility* event bringing media attention likely increases contributions, discussion of future events which in turn elicit more contributions -- a virtuous circle.
* Well, high visibility in the context of northeastern collegiate winter athletics, anyway.
monstrosities
I think they could have done much better with a few small changes:
1. Put the names on the back
2. Put the numbers on the arms
3. Use a matching shade of pink on the jerseys and socks
I don't think the jerseys are all that terrible, but they are not nearly as awesome as the women's jerseys from last year that I saw a few fans wearing in the stands this weekend:
