QuoteA lot of players' parents are reportedly making the trip to North Dakota

Somebody should tell Kevin to look out for the crazy fans who are also making the trip!

I like how instead of having a graphic representing the University of North Dakota on the header graphic, it's a seal of the state of ND.  Apparently they will take on all challengers in the Flickertail State.

They probably don't need Ralph Engelstad's estate's permission to use the state seal, but he might own that too.

What if Native Americans object to the way the colonialists exercised further domination by creating states, boundaries, and state seals on formerly free lands? Maybe tomorrow we'll see in place of the seal one of those Facebook-no-picture shadows instead.

Did our blogger tell the full story about what's going on? I recall farting contests on the team bus, for instance. And he doesn't mention them telling a single Newfie joke. Maybe times have changed and everyone's a model citizen, now.

The description of the bus-and-air trip begs the question, "Why that route?" going into and out of Canada twice, and I assume the answer is that the bus into Canada ride allows for a single flight and overall it's quicker. Or that's the only plane that had seats for all 30 of them. Or maybe it's less of a zoo air-traveling in Canada the day before Thanksgiving than in the U.S.

Don't you love some of the cautionary journalism of the blog: "A lot of players' parents are reportedly making the trip to North Dakota ... "

Still, it's great Cornell is doing a road trip and playing a real team. Should we split the series or better, most people won't remember it as a down year for ND hockey, only that we did well against the perennial powerhouse of the West.

Holy crap.  Where do I begin?

Really bill?  You have both the time and the desire to read about every conversation held for every mile of this trip?  Tell me, these fart & Newfie jokes that you remember...did you run right out and blog or write up for a paper about them?  Because that would be some hard-hitting journalism.  Pulitzer worthy.  Personally, I think the bit about meeting Ray Sawada at the Winnipeg airport is miles more interesting than a story about how Tyler Mugford farted on Keir Ross's head and everyone laughed so hard they nearly peed themselves.  And I have a feeling that since this is going on, you know, THE OFFICIAL ATHLETICS WEBSITE and all, that only relevant and appropriate stories have a chance of making it.

OK, that's a very good question, and one a lot of people have been asking.  Frankly, I think it was a lot of factors, and you hit on some of the reasons.  Probably the fact that they're flying on the 2 busiest travel days around the Thanksgiving holiday (Wed & Sun) have a lot to do with it...both in cost and capacity.  It's not a holiday in Canada.  Cheaper flights, 1 flight hop vs. at least 3 from ITH, more capacity available for a hockey team, staff, and equipment.  I would guess that there's probably some sort of "connections" that the coaching staff can make considering the head coach is Canadian and recruits often in that country.

Soooo...what do you want?  A signed and notarized letter of intent from the family members that they are certain to be at the games??  Investigative calls to each and every parent?  This isn't the freaking Washington Post, bill.  It isn't even "journalism."  This is a little, entertaining blog post written by a guy from CU Athletics tagging along on the trip.  Athletics is doing this for our enjoyment.  Players probably say "yeah, my folks are gonna try to make the 10 hour drive from Regina if the weather is good..."  Using "reportedly" is fine.  Yeah, yeah...we all GET that you're such a journalism and technology watchdog.  You don't have to pick everything that appears online apart to show us again.  Sheez.

QuoteStill, it's great Cornell is doing a road trip and playing a real team.

What does that mean?  This is a pet peeve of mine in the college hockey world...the dismissing of the non-brand names as being fakes or some teams are "real" (usually perpetrated by WCHA fans).  You're just perpetuating the "all mighty WCHA" myth.  So Ferris State (for example) isn't a "real" team?  Alabama Huntsville is a complete fraud?  North Dakota is currently ranked below such teams as Harvard, UMass-Lowell, and Nebraska-Omaha.  How are they any more "real" than Miami, Air Force, or Northeastern?  Because you saw them on the teevee in the Frozen Four multiple years?  Screw that thinking.  The game doesn't grow and programs aren't allowed to emerge until you shelve that inferiority BS.

I'm very excited about the roadtrip, however.  On that point, I agree.  I wish we went West more often.  Half-hour until my train which begins my journey!  I won't blog about it because billhoward might rip me apart.  LGR!!

PS: Much of this is :-) :-), so don't tell me to chill out.  I'm very chill right now.  This was very entertaining for me.  :-)

It's almost a dead-certain guarantee, if we split or better, the only thing that NoDak fans will be talking about is how Cornell was just lucky to play them in a down year.

Oops, I guess we'll just have to play them every year to make sure.  Wouldn't that be too bad. **]

And if we drop two, how even in a down year NoDak can beat the class of the EZAC.
