Title: Cornell at RPI 3-2
Post by: Jim Hyla on January 18, 2003, 05:42:53 PM
I thought I'd start this with a request. A game or so ago, someone started to change the subject heading to update the score. I don't remember who, but thought it was a great way to keep late comers up-to-date.

What do you think? B-] ?

I believe they meant the subject heading of a given post.  But if you want to also update this first post with each goal, then people will also know by just looking at the topic list.

I know you noted it when I did it a few games ago, but I certainly can't take credit for the idea....A few other folks had done it, and I just thought it was a good idea.  Makes things a lot easier to follow.

Of course, if some people like the "suspense" of checking the message...

So I take it RPI's pre-game consists of awful music (much like Union's intermission reports).   ::snore::

Sounds like RPI announcers didn't say anything...Adam talked about it--he said he was distracted by the Cowbell guy getting kicked out and then he said that the Cornell fans welcomed him back to the rink

Title: Re: Cornell at RPI 0-0
Post by: JDeafv on January 18, 2003, 08:22:51 PM
Adam commented that Age was kicked out and then let back in ...

Age threw his hat on the ice thinking Baby had a hat trick.  That may have been the reason he was kicked out - but that's speculation.

Is he still carrying around that same old hat trick hat?  I think we've had a few false alarms, but no actual hat tricks in the last few years.

Post by: Greg Berge on January 18, 2003, 08:28:42 PM
The score is still 3-1.  The goal was given to Vesce, not Bâby.

Yes, we still don't have a hat trick since November, 1998 (David Kozier's first ECAC game, at Harvard).

And anyone who is listening to our feed is very lucky... the RPI intermission reports are perhaps the most boring thing I've ever heard in my life.  Last period they read us three polls, and the Pairwise Rankings top to bottom.

To be fair, RPI's 6th penalty was also an awful call according to Adam, so I guess it's all fair.  Cornell kills off the pp.  No idea how much tiem left -- maybe about 11:00?

Title: Re: Cornell at RPI 0-0
Post by: atb9 on January 18, 2003, 09:47:36 PM
I have no idea...Adam aired an interview with Lenny where Lenny stated that he expected to start every game as long as he was playing well.  Interesting that the interview took place during a game that he didn't start.  Although I could have sworn that Adam said LENNY stopped that breakaway on the shorthander in the first....oh well.  USCHO box score definitely has Chabot playing the first and Lenny coming in at the start of the second.

Pretty sweet that we held them to 15 shots, especially only 4 in the third period!

Post by: Greg Berge on January 18, 2003, 09:57:15 PM
What are you guys talking about?  According to Adam, LeNeveu played the whole game.  Chabot was on the bench, replacing Marr who was ill.

The out of town scores lay to rest any reasonable doubt that it is a two-way race for the RS title.  No other ECAC team is better than 2 games over .500, while Harvard and Cornell are both 8 games over.

I want to know what is wrong with Dartmouth.  This Green team that has collapsed on consecutive weekends just cannot be the team that outplayed the Big Red back in November.

The USCHO box score has Chabot playing in the first period:

                   Scoring                SOG       Pen. PP
Cornell       0 3 0 = 3     10 10 4 = 24 6-12 2-6
Rensselaer 1 0 1 = 2     5    4  6 = 15 6-12 1-6

Scoring Summary

First Period
rpi-1 Nick Economakos (Ben Barr)        2:03

Second Period
cor-1 Stephen Bâby (Jeremy Downs)        3:02
cor-2 Stephen Bâby (Ryan Vesce)        PPG 14:44
cor-3 Ryan Vesce (Stephen Bâby, Doug Murray)       GWG PPG 16:00

Third Period
rpi-2 Kirk MacDonald (Brad Farynuk, Ben Barr)        PPG 5:33

  Goaltender Saves
cor-1 Dave LeNeveu (40:00 W)    4 5 = 9 (1 GA)
cor-2 Louis Chabot (19:58 N)   4   = 4 (1 GA)
rpi-1 Nathan Marsters (59:08 L)   10 7 4 = 21 (3 GA)

I was at the game.  LeNeveu played the entire game(I think).

One other thing I noticed (this being my first game this year) is that our away jerseys now have the players' names on the back.  I think this is a change from the past isn't it?  Any explanation?

This may be the reason behind the confusion in the boxscores.

Title: Re: Cornell at RPI 3-2

Agreed, BRA. Whether we are a hair behind or a hair ahead of CC or NoDak on 1/18 isn't very significant, considering that we've only played about half the season.  It's nice to see us ranked high, but wondering what made us slip a place now is a little silly.

Note; this comes from someone who is usually obsessed with the numbers (and admittedly was looking at them earlier :-P )
