Title: Princeton 31 at Cornell 26 football (final)
Post by: billhoward on November 01, 2008, 02:48:36 PM
Cornell rolls up a 13-0 lead in the first half. The Princeton offense comes alive and seems to move at will every other series to go up 17-13. At least the weather is nice. Probably the last good weekend until halfway through the lacrosse season.

[edit add:] Cornell gets picked off in the Princeton end zone, about 5 plays later Princeton makes it to the Cornell end zone, 24-13 in the fourth. Cornell makes it exciting early in the fourth, goes 2 plays for a TD to cut it to a 21-19 deficit (2 point conversion goes awry).

Final, Princeton 31-26. Cornell's Nathan Ford throws incomplete in the end zone on the final play after scoring once in the final minute then getting the ball back and driving to the 20. Nathan Ford's 33x55 passing for 433 yards and 3 TDs would have been the stuff of legend if he'd been 34x55 and 4 TDs. He'd already beaten Lehigh wiht a final-play TD pass from the 20. He seems to throw a combination of heroic tosses plus the occasional wounded duck and ill-timed pick (as if there's ever a well-timed interception).

Nice that the Ivy football video is free. Nice that there's more than one video camera now. Too bad the second camera's color balance is way off. Camera 1 is green field, red jerseys; Camera 2 is olive field, orange Cornell jerseys. And no instant replay. I just missed a 20-yard first down catch by Cornell bnecause I had another window that opened over the video screen; I did get to see Cornell's 80-yard-for-a-TD punt return called back by a penalty.

Cornell puts a good offensive drive together only to throw an INT in the endzone.

If you're in NESN country, they are airing some Ivy Football documentary at the moment.

ETA: This is the documentary: http://8ivyfootball.com/watch.asp

Oh yeah, and PU coverts a 4th and 1 for a TD and it's 30-19 with not enough time left.

Quick score cornell. 31-26. Barry is horrible at giving time left. I think it's about 40 seconds.

Ford fakes a spike... apparently that's illegal now. 5 yd penalty. 5 seconds left ball on the PU 20.

31-26 PU final

1-3 Ivy. Gotta win the next two to at least be respectable.

Still one Ivy win and counting.  How do you go from 13-0 to 19-31?

Thank goodness Columbia often comes late in the season. That's about as close to a guaranteed win as you can have in the Ivies. Most of the time.

A Knowles-coached team lost at Columbia two years ago--and this year's game is at Columbia.
