Title: Cornell 25 - Lehigh 24
Post by: jkahn on October 04, 2008, 03:36:07 PM
Big Red pull out a victory with a 20 yard TD pass as clock expires, ending a see-saw game.

Can Cornell win five road games by a total of five points?::banana::

I'd take another one-pointer next week at Harvard.

Amazing game!  When the receiver dropped the ball on the one with 10 seconds left, I thought that was our chance.  But to score two plays later?  Wow!

This might be the first football game I've been to since graduation that we won.  'Bout time.

What an amazing game. On a campus that seems even more hilly than Cornell. (Less acreage, same or more elevation change.) After last week's nail-biter vs. Yale, you'd be hard-pressed to believe that a) Cornell's running game could be contained and b) Nathan Ford could throw for multi-hundred yards and secure a place high among Cornell's top-ten (single game) passing games.

Three wins by a total of five points and it could just as easily be the other way.

Now, Harvard. LGR.

CU has a link to a video of the winning play here. (http://cornellbigred.com/news/2008/10/4/FB_1004081431.aspx)

This site will be the first one to note that Nathan Ford broke the all time Cornell record for most total yards in a game with 447. This breaks Ricky Rahne's 440. Nathan had 438 passing and 9 rushing; Ricky had 446 passing and -6 rushing so Nathan will come in at #3 in yards passing, with Rahne at numbers 1 and 2.

The announcer's voice never changed pitch when Cornell made the improbable last-play TD. It was as if he was announcing a first-down catch at midfield in the second quarter.

I didn't get a chance to watch the game (Giants):

How does an offensive lineman get a concussion?

I disagree. I think he sounded numb after the catch.

Okay, it could be that, too. In a situation Cornell has been in too often: You know, eventually, that Lucy Brown will pull the ball away and you're resigned to your fate. But it wasn't, "Holy mother of god, Cornell ... improbable catch ... touchdown ... Lehigh chokes ... I can't freakin' believe it."

I guess I was looking for the same intonation and excitement as "Havlicek steals the ball!"

Lucy Van Pelt.  She's Linus's sister, not Charlie Brown's. :-}
