I tried listening on both the Clarkson's streams and they were full of static. For people with the same amount of patience that I have, you can listen to the St. Cloud feed over the internet here on KCML (http://www.lite999.com/pages/722329.php?contentType=33&contentId=25274) or on KVSC. (http://www.kvsc.org/)
Final Scores from Friday 3/28
Clarkson 2 - SCSU 1 ::banana::
Notre Dame 7 - UNH 3
Michigan 5 - Niagara 1
Michigan State 3 - Colorado College 1
I was just about to post the same thing -- wow was that ever hard to find. CHN and USCHO links all bad!
Let's go Knights, I guess. Ugh.
Game's on ESPNU for anyone who has it. The arena is looking pretty empty. I think I do hear the "Let's go Tech!" in the background.
The announcers for this regional are pretty bad. Clarkson took an early penalty on an odd man rush but looked really good on the kill. If they continue to play physical to counter the speed of SCSU they should do well in this game.

Unfortunately, I'm stuck at work til 6ish, thus dependent on the internet.
The KCML stream cut out on me, but after a few rebuffering attempts, KVSC seems to be fine (but you do need to raise the volume).

I have no problems cheering for Clarkson in this regional at all. Wish I were there.

Pretty typical for WCHA radio guys. Mispronouncing Leggio's name, saying things like "I'm going to call it 1-0 Huskies by the time this powerplay is over." And they didn't score. Clarkson outshooting SCSU by about 15-9 right now.
Buzzer sounds. 0-0 after 1. Shots 15-11 in favor of CCT.
I think SCSU is going to get their 4th power play of the game to Clarkson's zero for a stupid check after the buzzer sounded.

Argh, can't get either of the links to work, even in Windoze.

I just got on KVSC low bandwidth after having trouble with the others.
Let's Go Knights.

I got it on two or three streams at once in the end; crazy echo effect.
SCSU scores in the 2nd.

Clarkson ties it up.

SCSU broadcasters stressing about 18 times how it was such a "fluke" goal blah blah blah.

Was pretty ugly, but it was more misplayed by the goalie than "flukey" IMO.
Clarkson just looked really good on the PP but failed to put one in the net.
Given the record of futility these two programs have in the NCAAs, this game could rival the historic Union-Yale playoff game of a few years ago in duration.::whistle::
Listening to the SCSU announcers makes it very easy to root for Clarkson.

Someone on USCHO predicted this game would last until the night before the frozen four in which case teh NCAA would decide the game based on the least offensive mascot winning. Since all the non-Golden Knights hate Clarkson SCSU would win.
And Clarkson goes up 2-1 on a pretty individual effort by Guthrie.
Late pp by SCSU. About 4 mins to go.
I like this game because one crappy NCAA performance history will have to end.
But the SCSU one if funnier, so Go Tech!
1 min 40 sec left, Clarkson hanging on.....
EN SCSU.
and now a TO.
less than 30 seconds, Leggio with a save.
Somebody should mail that tape to Donato.
Clarkson wins!! Yeah for the "EZAC". :-)
Congrats to the Knights. Win tomorrow so I have an ECAC team to root for in Denver.
First non-Cornell ECAC NCAA win in 8 years IIRC.
Nice. I only fake-hate Clarkson, so I don't mind if they beat teams that aren't Cornell.

When I was in Albany, I sat near a Clarkson fan. I wished him luck at the end of the tourney, and I guess it worked!
Whoo hoo! Go ECAC!
Although, for the record, Harvard sucks.
UHN already up 1-0 on Notre Dame 1:04 into their game
Make that 1-1

Oh, no hesitation on my part either, although "Let's go Knights" makes it feel like a hijacked LGR! cheer. That being said, I'm delighted they won -- congrats CCT.
I'll happily root for both Clarkson and Princeton to go all the way to the finals (at which point I'd root for Princeton).
LGK, LGT.
2-1 UNH 5:40 gone in 1st
Huh, well how about that. All it took for Clarkson to break their string of NCAA futility was a game against a team with a worse string of NCAA futility.
The TV signal for me is tons better on the UNH game. Much brighter and crisper picture. Anybody else?
UHN-No. Dame now 2-2, 17:25 into 1st

Ewww. In that case, "let's go Tech." Princeton's for the pretty boys, I hear, and drunkards go to Penn.
PS But I thought Derek Jeter endorsed "The Hurricane?" I don't understand!
3-2 Irish, 2:39 into 2nd

As much as I enjoy the fact that Clarkson, with the long hockey tradition they have, has never won the national championship, I think I'd be rooting for the Knights in an all ECAC final. I'm sure it helps that I don't actually know any Clarkson alums (not counting virtual acquaintances).
ND up 4-2, halfway thru 2nd
It seems like the University of No Hardware wants to keep their moniker: 4-2 Irish, halfway through the 2nd period.
ND 4- UNH 3 13:09 into 2nd
Huzzah. The pub closest to my apartment has ESPNU and had it on half the TVs without me having to ask. I think I have my barstool picked out for most of the weekend.
Way to go, Clarkson!
2 notes:
1. Bob Norton without the coke-bottles and trying to look suave for the Worldwide Leader is still a scary sight. That's a huge, red noggin.
2. So they break from the bonus coverage of UHN-ND at the intermission prior to UM-NU. They talk to Norty for about a minute and then...show basketball brackets. Oh good. Because we can't find any coverage of that other tournament anywhere.
Way to go, Clarkson!
Michigan and Niagara tied at 0 after one.
early period goals:
ND 5 UNH 3 in 3rd
Mich 1 Nia 0 in 2nd
Michigan and Niagara tied at 0 after one.
Wouldn't that make for a lovely upset?
I'd sure like to see State knock off CC.
Now 2-0 Michigan.
Still 5-3 ND, less than 8 minutes left in the 3rd.
2-0 Michigan midway thru 2nd
ND still up 5-3 7:03 left
A UNH player just got a 5 minute major for boarding and there is only 4:48 left in the game. ND still with the 2 goal lead.
ND took a penalty to make it 4-4 and UNH pulled the goalie with just over 3 minutes left and "Empty Net" gives up a goal.
6-3 ND with less than 3 minutes left.
touchdown
7-3 ND
ND 7 - UNH 3 (final)
End of two periods, Michigan 2 v. Niagara 0.

And far above Cayuga there's a race of hairy men...
The ref was responsible for that ENG. Stupid fucking refs need to get the hell out of the way. Not that Niagara had a chance at that point, anyway, but dammit... it's the principle! :-)
Kyle
Michigan wins 5-1.
Niagara got its goal with about 4 minutes left to make it 4-1, and Michigan finished with an empty net goal.
Shots on goal 40-25 for Clarkson.

The third man stationed by the benches in the Albany Regional is Cap Raeder (http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php3?pid=4437), former New England Whaler (and UNH) goalie and my favorite Whaler when I was about 8 years old. In fact, my first hockey jersey ever was a #35 Cap Raedar jersey. He may not be the best color guy, but I do appreciate the trip down memory lane. ::innocent::

and to throw in a little trivia: in 1974 Cap's UNH team was the first #1 seed to lose in the ECAC quarter-finals, to RPI 7-6 in overtime. This result actually hurt #4 Cornell, as we had to then play #3 BU in the semis, a team most thought to be better than #1 UNH. The top four were within about 1 1/2 games that year.
MSU 0 v. CC 0 at the end of the 1st period.
Break up the CCHA! MSU scores 3 times in the second to take a 3-0 lead at the end of 2 periods.
MSU 3- CC 0 end of 2. That ice seems huge; so much room behind the net.
4 mins to go, 3-1 MSU. Great night for the CCHA; terrible night for the WCHA.
4 mins to go, 3-1 MSU. Great night for the CCHA; terrible night for the WCHA.
Not that there is anything wrong with that!
Under 90 seconds left and MSU just hit the post on an ENG attempt.
Wow, I guess the west region was indeed the "bracket of death"; both the #1 and #2 seeds went down.
Colorado College lost at home to Michigan State 3-1. The MSU D blocked quite a few shots in the final period.
At least it will not be an "all-WCHA" Frozen Four! :-)

Game sounded like a replay of the Cornell-CC game in the regionals: CC dominated the first period and then went into the tank.
[Thread drift] Tough times for Colorado Collage: 5-3 to start the decade in NCAA play, now 5-6 with a seminfinal loss in 2005, then first round exits to Cornell (3-2) in 2006 and 3-1 this year to Michigan State. No NCAA title since 1957. At least somebody's having worse luck than us in the titles department. http://www.coloradocollege.edu/athletics/varsity_sports/Hockey/history/ncaa/
As long as we're not playing against them, you want to root for a small school like CC with good academics if for no other reason than the NCAA doesn't like small schools being so good in D1 sports. Eg Clarkson, RPI (sort of small), Johns Hopkins, Hobart. Davidson may fall into that category, too. (The website is still a bit unsettled by their hoops success: four home page tabs are Athletics | Academics | USA Today | Bookstore ... the third link being to some basketball stories.)
I believe the NCAA has clamped down on other schools being allowed in the future to go D1 in just a single sport.
I believe the NCAA has clamped down on other schools being allowed in the future to go D1 in just a single sport.
I think it's more that D-III schools won't be allowed to go D-I in a single sport and award scholarships in that sport, save for the few that have been grandfathered in. In hockey, this includes RPI, St. Lawrence, Clarkson, and Colorado College.
Davidson may fall into that category, too. (The website is still a bit unsettled by their hoops success: four home page tabs are Athletics | Academics | USA Today | Bookstore ... the third link being to some basketball stories.)
I was interested in that very same question last night, and it turns out that Davidson is Division I in 21 sports, not just men's basketball. So that means over 25% of each class is a varsity athlete in the Southern Conference, which admittedly isn't known for its athletic prowess, save for Davidson basketball and the fact that Appalachian State beat Michigan this year in football.
Yep. That's a mouthful.

The pride of the EZAC seems to lie with Clarkson now... Princeton is losing 3-0 with less than 7 minutes left in the 3rd period. ::help::
Let's Go Tech!!
4-0 (ENG) ND over Princeton with about 5 to play.
