At the end of the first period:
Colgate 0 @ Clarkson 1,
Quinnipiac 0 @ Harvard 1
Yale 0 @ Princeton 1
Odd discussion about playoff beards on WHRB. TMI!::uhoh::
Grrr...would be nice if one (or 2) of the road teams won and got us into the late game.
Grrr...would be nice if one (or 2) of the road teams won and got us into the late game.
We still have 40 minutes of hockey. There is still hope.
Princeton up 2-0 now
And Colgate ties Clarkson at 1
Colgate scores. Clarkson and Colgate tied at 1.
Quinnipiac just scored to tie the game at 1. Still in the 2nd period.
Q then gets called on a penalty and Hahvahd scores a PPG. Now 2-1 Crimson.
Minn-Minn St now on FSN. Let's Go State.
ECAC site has the Harvard - Quinnipiac game tied at 2.
Edit: Not any more. Now they show it as 2-1 Harvard.
ECAC site has the Harvard - Quinnipiac game tied at 2.
So does live stats.,
It's 2-1 Harvard, by WHBR and Livestats now. end of 2.
MSU 1-0 Minny.
At the end of 2 periods, Harvard 2 - Quinnipiac 1.
MSU mavericks just scored a PPG goal to go up 1-0 on the goophers. Just under 11 minutes left in the 1st period.
ECAC has Colgate up over Clarkson 2-1?
At the end of 2 periods, Harvard 2 - Quinnipiac 1.

HA. ha, I beat you. ::banana:: Sorry, I had to do it. I'm a two finger typer and really slow, so when it happens it's a celebration.
ECAC has Colgate up over Clarkson 2-1?
Yes. So does livestats.
Confirmed, 2-1 Raiders. Gate radio says they are playing great.
Colgate 2 Clarkson 1, after 2.
If the current scores were to hold, semifinals would be:
Colgate v Princeton (early game)
Cornell v Harvard (late game)
Princeton up 3-0 on Yale after 2 periods.
Shit. Minnesota just tied up the game. 1:47 left in the 1st.
It's that time of year again. USCHO's server is totally overloaded.
Shit. Minnesota just tied up the game. 1:47 left in the 1st.
Scrum in front of the Harvard net, but no goal. Apparently the Q players thought it went it.
13:04 left in the 3rd, still 2-1 Harvard.
Q has the better of the play and just hit the post. They really need to convert on one of these chances.
Clk just tied it 2-2
I hope they all go 27 OT;s and finish early fri morning..
3-1 sucks now, I guess that one's about over.
Not likely for Sucks. They just went up 3-1
hvd 3-1
'Gate to the power play with 8:37 to play.
NM: Diving called on the play also.
NOW 'Gate to the power play. 7:47 left.
Now a penalty to 'Gate so some 4x4 play then some Clarkson PP.
Bad injury in the battle of Minnesota. I'm not sure what happened because the sound is off, but someone on Minnesota's been down for an awfully long time.
Less than 3 minutes left in Q's season.
Gopher player injured; they just brought out the stretcher.
From the replay just shown, he was by the Gopher bench, sort of facing the bench. Maverick player hit him, helmet when flying off and the player fell to the ice.
I was a Maverick escorted off the ice, presumably to the locker room. I only saw the replay and it was hard to tell how much of a "hit from behind" (i.e. did the MSU player take extra strides) it was or if it was just "wrong place/wrong time".
Anyone get a better look at it?
Final 3-1 Hvd :-(

Looks to me like an elbow with no harmful intent, a penalty yes but not a dirty play. I think the major penalty is excessive because it didn't look like intent to injure.
And the sucks game is a final now.
Final 3-1 Hvd :-(
But "Empty Net" kept the game close at the end. Harvard hit 2 posts in the last minute. :-P
'Gate kills of the penalty. 4:30 to play, still 2-2.
Clarkson with a lot of pressure in the closing 10 minutes...Gate still hanging on. 1:07 to go, faceoff in the Colgate defensive zone.
And to OT we go in Potsdam.
"the scoreboard now imploring people to make some noise!" less than a minute to go at cheel
Is the Clarkson - Colgate game on free radio somewhere? I've searched, but can't find a feed. If there is one, could someone post it please?
Thanks.

On the 2nd replay it looked like the Gopher player hit the players bench at a bad angle. The Maverick may have given him a bit of a cross check, but nothing worth 5 minutes. Apparently the injured player is talking, so that is a good sign.
Mavs killed off the 5 minute major and now have PP thanks to a gopher too many men penalty.

2-1 gophers.
3:45 left in the 2nd.
PU won, if gate wins we play Hvd late. If Clk, we play them early.
Gate/Clarkson in OT
I must say I am rooting for Clarkson. Cornell matches up much better with them than they do Harvard and the 4PM start time would leave us better rested for the Final.
Did anyone else hear the Gate announcer say "Get the puck out of dodge?"
I must say I am rooting for Clarkson. Cornell matches up much better with them than they do Harvard and the 4PM start time would leave us better rested for the Final.
The championship is likely to go through Harvard either way, so I'm just rooting for Cornell. (Although logistics would be easier with a 7pm game on Friday)
Clarkson just hit the crossbar, but no!
Does this remind anyone else of that long OT game a couple of years ago between Union and Yale that we all started listening to?
I must say I am rooting for Clarkson. Cornell matches up much better with them than they do Harvard and the 4PM start time would leave us better rested for the Final.
I figure we can't lose either way--either get the more favorable matchup vs. Clarkson, or laugh at the fact that Clarkson lost their playoff series at home as a 1 seed
Does this remind anyone else of that long OT game a couple of years ago between Union and Yale that we all started listening to?
One can only hope!
Minn. St. ties it with 16:40 left in 3rd
Mavericks tie it at 2. Right through the 5-hole. Sweet.
16:40 left in the 3rd.
I just got back from the Harvard-Q game. Final score should have been 3-2 Harvard. Q had a goal that was missed by the refs ala the goal by Princeton against us that went unseen. It happened right in front of me and I saw the puck clearly in the net, before Richter batted it out. It wouldn't have mattered much anyway...Sucks thoroughly outskated and out-hit a Q team that looked like it was on its last legs for the entire game.
FYI--they just said the Minny player likely has a broken nose and concussion...pretty lucky and great to hear it wasn't worse, looking at the way he hit/fell!
Clarkson to the PP. 2:24 in OT.
Powerplay for Clarkson at 17:36.
Clarkson to the PP. 2:24 in OT.
The refs certainly aren't from the WCHA; only in the first OT and already 3 penalties called.
Minnesota @ MSU still tied at 2. 7:06 left. Gophers have had a lot of good pressure for the last 4 minutes or so, including a PP.
2 OT clk- gate
I hope Clarkson wins after a few more OT periods; they'll be too tired to play against us.
So, do you think that it is possible that Clarkson would fall down far enough in the PWR if they lost this game to not make the tourney? They are tied for 9 right now, with the two Minn teams right behind them (I'm guessing the winner would jump ahead?)...

Clarkson is pretty much a lock to make the tourney regardless
Clarkson should win this the longer it goes as they have more depth, but I'd hate to have to face those seniors fighting for their lives--Burton, Winchester and Dekanich.
Vermont beats Northeastern (4-1?)
BU 4 over UM-Lowell 2
Minnesota and MSU headed for OT!! ::popcorn:: ::banana::

Definitely agree, the longer the game goes the better it is for Clarkson. That being said, as we all know anything can happen in this sport, especially in this situation.
According to Gate cast, the already small Clarkson crowd thinned out over the fourth intermission.
Clarkson should win this the longer it goes as they have more depth, but I'd hate to have to face those seniors fighting for their lives--Burton, Winchester and Dekanich.
Dekanich broke the Colgate career assists saves record tonight.

Yeah, I have to laugh. The 3 games at gate last weekend had crowds of 816,814, & 687 and that was before they started to thin out.
The Union announcer said the Messa crowd was the largest in the ECAC Friday. I wonder what portion were the Faithful? 20? 30?
I'd say closer to 40
The Union announcer said the Messa crowd was the largest in the ECAC Friday. I wonder what portion were the Faithful? 20? 30?
Split the difference--probably about 25%. It was great that the faithful were able to cooperate enough to allow those wishing to stand to occupy the back of the sections and have everyone else sit below. I hope we can accomplish the same at Lynah Middle East, though it's been difficult in the past.
Edit: I see Doug said 40--he may be right as I never left my seat during the games to see the crowd in the sections next to us.
And so. We meet again... (http://www.tbrw.info/games/cornellHarvardPS.html)

Final - Colgate 3, Clarkson 2, 2OT

Almost as unbelievable a penalty in OT of a WCHA game. Mavs on a PP.
So another episode in the long story of Clarkson failures in the tourney.
Colgate's upset of Clarkson also means that there will be two ECAC teams (and one less western team) in the NCAA tournament... :-)

Maybe even 3
Still more hockey from Mankato. 1st OT just ended, still 2-2.
Refs have lost their whistles again, much to the chagrin of the Maverick fans.

Yes, but that no call with Minny hooking MSU in the armpit should have been called. Even if you think MSU then held the stick, it was a hook. At least matching penalties. I think letting marginal penalties go is OK, but that was blatant.
This game won't end. The Maves just had two really good chances to end this, including a pretty wide open half of a net and the shot hit the post.
4:03 left in the 2OT.
Potential Gopher game-winning goal under review. Gopher Lucia was pushed into the crease and the puck went in. Goal is good. Dammit.
I think the Mavs deserved a better fate.
The gophers win. The goal wouldn't have gone in but a Mankato defender pushed a gopher into the goalie's leg pad while the puck was underneath it and it went in.

How will Colgate going instead of Clarkson affect Albany attendance? How much free pizza will the Colgate administration have to give out to get the students to go all the way to Albany?

A sincere thanks, Drew. Many of us here know what that feeling is like not making it to the league final 4 with the quality team you have.
Pretty stunning that there has only been 1 year in the past 11 where Cornell and Clarkson have both made the ECAC final four, and never in Albany (butting heads in earlier rounds makes it tough). The way I see it, we're two fanbases that deserve each other's company this time of year. There's enough beer in Albany for both of us one of these years...

Best of luck on your NCAA seeding. Your season isn't over, and you'll have friends pulling for you in the tournament.
I was actually rooting for Clarkson and Quinny to make it this year. Both schools have good travelling fanbases and it would have been nice to see the arena getting closer to capacity.
The flip side is, if there are enough Faithful, we can own the TUC.
The flip side is, if there are enough Faithful, we can own the TUC.
I really don't think that fan presence is taken into account when determining TUCs for PWR, certainly not to a significant enough extent to actually flip any comparisons.
